The reason for that is because gamers like to elaborate stories. In my opinion, I think that gamers who wants to make new games are trying to make some that doesn't look like a game that already exist. But it's tough! Every idea we make look so much like an other idea from a popular game!

So, if we decide to make an RPG, instead though the gameplay and everything is important, we can REALLY try to make the story different from everything else, because that is what will make OUR game different from everyone else's.

There's barely such a thing as an 'original story', because everything has been done already in some shape or form. What matters most is how it's presented. People kept comparing avatar to Pocahontas and that being the only reason 'it sucks', never mentioning a thing about its execution.
I think that (next to gameplay) how a story is told is better than its originality. :v I found FFX's initial story a little similar to the one in Digimon world 2, but FFX's story was told so well I just didnt really care and loved it regardless. But... that's just my example.

I would like to create a game that's a deconstruction of modern day 'Action Horror' games, like dead space and resident evil 5. Basically, for the first few 'chapters' of the game, you're going to be finding more and more powerful weaponry while the enemies themselves will be pretty weak. About 1/4 of the way through the game your weapons will soon gain the 'ability' to break after using it a certain amount of times, and there will be no way to repair them. Though, even if all your weapons DO break, I would have it so that you could place traps, or somehow interact with environment to also kill enemies. All the while, enemies are getting much stronger, and much faster than usual, and if you want to survive till the end of the game, you'll really need to learn to think on your feet, oh yeah, and to hide, hiding would probably help to.

If I could get a job at Valve, I'd force them to make a purely co-op game where one person plays Gordon Freeman with all the usual type weapons, and the other person would play Chell with the portal gun. Not sure how the mechanics would work... just think it'd be rad fun Big Grin

I personally feel there haven't been enough psychological survival horror games this gen. Sure there's been Dead Space, Silent Hill and Resi Evil, plus whatever else there may be, but all of them seem to have strayed too far from being horror games and have essentially become action games with a few screamers and dark corridors thrown in for good measure. I just feel that developers have begun to neglect good game design and originality to create simple cliche games that cater to the modern 12 year old gamer.

With that out of the way I'd like to propose my ideas.

If it wasn't obvious enough, I'd like to create something along the lines of a psychological survival horror game, probably with RPG elements, but nothing too major. Probably a skill system and weapon repair/crafting. I'd like to find a balance between Silent Hill's surreal, psychological elements and combine it with Resident Evil's... Well, Resident Evilness I suppose. I'd like to keep the game set in one location unlike Resi Evil 5's globe trotting bullshit though; something like Silent Hill 1, where you're trapped in some creepy fucking town where you can't escape and you're trying to find a loved one. I'd like to keep the cast small as to allow for greater character development too. Oh and I hate it when characters talk to themselves, be it in video games or movies or whatever. There will be absolutely none of that in my game. Think something like Shadow of the Colossus, where the main character talks in only one or two scenes but his character is developed by his actions as you play. Most of the story/backstory/character development/etc will unfold and become revealed as the game is PLAYED, not through hour long cutscenes (not pointing the finger at anyone in particular, entire Metal Gear Solid series).

I have many ideas, but as you can see most of what I want to do is based on already existing concepts and ideas. It's a shame that I'm unoriginal, but hey, who is anymore, right? :3

A type of Survival Horror, where a boy who comes to a small city
of USA start a new life.During the game you have to make friends
and know people and their story. If you fail to befriend a person,he
will die somehow.

I would create a game about innocent babies. I would call it Babies: The Blood-Letting Sacrifice.

Please, do that. I beg thee.

I would make a game about monsters getting tired of humans (the medieval kind of humans) slaying them and going on a quest to save Monsterkind from extinction. And one of the monsters attacks exclusively by puking.

I would do a game about a gamer.

Who's life gradually becomes more interesting,

As actual video game characters start entering the real world.

And he's got to find out how to deal with them, y'know?

Has that ever been done?

The Fatal Frame series is also psychological horror, but instead of heading down the action packed path fellow games are dropping into (thankfully), theyre resorting back to nothing but jump scares instead of atmosphere (which is equally as unfortunate though). :c

also it's great to see others that are just as concerned with the lack of psychological horror games. I felt like the only one here who legitimately liked the genre. :u

It feels like I've heard that one before... But if not it seems like a great idea.

One thing I would do is a Mario and Luigi FPS game just for fun. Another I would make is one with a really deep hidden meaning so that when people discover it they will have their minds blown. And also a Shooter that relives true stories of war exactly almost exactly as they originally happened.
