To me it makes perfect sense, the manual that came with Donkey Kong Country had a backstory that had Diddy Kong guarding Donkey Kong's bannanna hoard and K. Rool invaded and stole them all and sealed Diddy in a DK barrel near the entrance to the hoard which is where you begin the game in Donkey Kong Country.
