RE: Zelda 2014 Details - (Unconfirmed)
Personally I think the Zelda franchise has a sort of charm to it that it stands out in the regards that it does not need Link to "talk" to get the players interested in playing the games. The games are about dungeon exploration, finding awesome and magical items, defeating bosses using items that you recently got or obtained earlier on, the side missions and also the quirky and lovable characters...Oh and the music, can't forget that.

I am not a huge Zelda fan but that is just what I believe and to make Link talk would ruin that charm it has and has always had.

Hold on, let me get this straight, you think that this Zelda game is on the same level of Skyrim in terms of what? I know it's not the map size and the amount of stuff you can do, but I don't really get what this part means.

I never once said that Zelda was on the same level as Skyrim. This is you barely reading my post and having a knee jerk reaction. I said, if they don't have voice acting for a game that is looking to appear on the same level as Skyrim, meaning the next game, not the current game. The article talks about the next game being huge, taking hours and hours to explore. With everything they want to put into the game, that would put it on the same level as Skyrim, if not above it. What is it with people not reading posts around here?

I want a voice actor to read out your posts, I'm tasked with reading sentences packed in an annoying white or base box. I didn't join this forum to read A FUCKING NOVEL, I joined this forum to be engrossed with the user's posts and lives, through how they portray it with smilies and images, with your posts, there's little images or smiles, and no dialogue to help, instead I'm reading everything in my voice, and that doesn't help anything.

amirite

On topic:
Lets be honest (no BS), the only reason we don't want Link to talk is because it would feel incredibly awkward hearing him talk, we'd take time to get used to it, it'd be distracting in the game and the Zelda fantards would rate it as the worst Zelda game ever (Even if the mechanics, graphics etc are improved an, the voice acting would make it the "worst Zelda game ever"). What kind of voice would Link have?

There is no excuse for Zelda not having voice acting but there's a huge risk of adding voices to a game like that and I personally don't find it charming in Zelda to have "lip-fumbling" but, would rather go back to the previous Zelda games of just head nodding and moving. I still find it archaic that they don't have voice acting because games are supposed to have progressed. We couldn't have voice acting in the 80's but adding voice acting was supposed to be one of the big features of the PS1 and N64. Yet in 2012, Nintendo won't do it for Zelda. I don't blame 'em for staying silent with Zelda. Basically, Nintendo are playing it safe for themselves and for us.

(It's kinda bad when the only voice acting you had for the Zelda series was the CD-i games and the cartoon).

Then let those be proof enough that voice acting in a Zelda game would not work out. Those games were just horrific.

But lead to many, many amusing soundbites.
I agree though, some things are better left in the past Big Grin

Frankly I'd rather them scale Zelda back. Link to the Past wasn't that big, nor was OoT or MM but they are some of the best games ever made. Quality over quantity.

I find there are so many different factors that contribute to Zelda that I don't think "scaling back" would mean anything. Skyward Sword was incredibly small. Each of the 3 areas were dungeons with a dungeon within itself. It's more on the scale of OoT/MM and the game had far more of an emphasis on emotional story telling. But it wasn't as good as TWW, TP, MM, OoT, PH and ALttP.

I personally hope it's bigger all around. The world AND quests. A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time are my favorite games of all time, and I would love for the new game to be just like that but more so. I would always play, and when I got close to the end I would quit and start a new file, because I never wanted it to end. I always hoped they would do a huge game where when we finally got awesome stuff (like the hookshot, lens of truth, etc.) we would have so much more time/places to use it. I also hope there's a lot more sidequests and collecting. I always loved that.

We already know the storyline will be good. And we know the world will be good. I just hope there's more of that awesomeness.

Actually, LTTP was large, it had enough space to fit a desert, a castle, a town, a forest, a lake, mountains and even a second map after that, along with 12 dungeons, it was the longest Zelda game yet, OOT and MM can't compare, I think the newer Zelda's should stop having the "Get 3 items for the MS" - "Then get 3-4 items for another task" - "Final dungeon" routine, and have a similar route to LTTP, in which you get 3 items for the MS, final boss, sudden plot twist, and then maybe have 5 dungeons to do things in, then the final final boss.

RE: Zelda 2014 Details - (Unconfirmed)
I know we're past it, but to the "you need dialogue to have an expressive story" argument, does nobody remember the Deku Butler's son? Or When the Deku tree died, or Kafei and Anju's wedding? That was a lot more emotional to me then anything I've seen in Skyrim.

I think what we need from Zelda isn't voice acting, or even a formula, we need a change-up.
Problem is, change-up games are seldom well received out of the gate, which is why we've gotten Link to the Past four times now.
