RE: Calming Yourself
Like Scormac, I'm naturally calm. Usually, when I'm pissed about something, it doesn't take too long for me to forget. Of course, it depends a lot on what pissed me. If it's something as trivial as an asshole making stupid jokes, for instance, I'll forget it happened in only a few minutes.

There are matters, though, in which I'm so deeply and almost unconsciously angry, but I'm too calm to really express, so most people (and even I) don't realise it.

Or at least that's what my psychologist led me to think.

Getting a bit off topic but this is a little pet-peeve of mine psychiatrists are just people who take your money and then tell you have a problem that you really don't have, I mean seriously they're always problems you didn't know you had which to me translates to they're making shit up that's not true.

I don't know about that. It is usually kinda boring to talk to her, but sometimes I few a little bit better after going there. She always remembers me about things I should be doing, or attitudes I should be taking. Like getting a job or stop getting late to the sessions. She also gives me good ideas and advices that almost no one I know would give, so I think it kinda pays off.

I guess so, but going off of what you just said and my already established knowledge, it seems she's just someone you talk to about your life openly and that can be done with a close friend or something for free, that's where my "therapy" comes from is having actual conversations about life with my friends so I never saw the need for that profession. But I guess it's a "whatever moment" because they do help it's just I don't think you should need to pay someone to talk to them when you can do that with people who know you a lot better than any random stranger would. *shrugs shoulders*

Oh yeah and when you said "remembers" I think you meant "reminds" sorry 'bout being a grammar nazi it just bugs me when I see a typo.

A pet peeve of yours is the entire field of both psychiatry and psychology? Damn doctors, trying to help people.

I know right - how dare they try and make you better.
I, for one, am a fan of psychiatry and psychology (but that's mainly because it used to be my field of study Big Grin). They're here to make you better - and it's kind of their job to find things you didn't know you had and then BAM, road to recovery

RE: Calming Yourself
Well whatever I knew I would receive some criticism for saying being a psychiatric is a pointless profession, the field of psychology is a different story, if you want to study how people think be my guest. But being a psychiatrist is dumb to me because what you are actually doing is just talking to people openly about their faults and issues and life in general and you can do that with anyone I shouldn't have to pay money to do that, and I don't. This is just how I see the whole psychiatrist as a profession thing, it just seems really pointless in my opinion.

Dude, psychiatrists are doctors. They prescribe drugs and deal with mental disorders. Have you read all the clinical studies since the inception of psychiatry as a field of study and decided that no, mental health problems don't actually exist?

RE: Calming Yourself
I think you're dumbing down psychiatry - It's not all reclining on a sofa and talking about your problems as you seem to think.
What you're describing sounds more like a counselor. Psychiatry is far from faffy chit-chat and is about rectifying mental disorders through therapy and medicine. Half of the psychiatric process happens in a clinic or hospital, it's just the first consultance that's on your stereotypical sofa to get a first idea of what's wrong.

People who have undergone psychiatry either get better or get bitter, that's what we say Big Grin
(Bitter because they always place the fault on the psychiatrist rather than on their own reticence to get treated)

RE: Calming Yourself
Well all these things are true but this is just my opinion I did not come here to debate an opinion of whether psychiatrists are helpful or not, however if you guys wanna talk about it that's fine by me just move it to the Unmitigated hate thread, this debate seems more suited to there I'm subed that thread too so you can just post there if you have anything more to say and I'll see it. I'd rather not kill this thread with an off topic debate.

Sorry, English isn't my first language, so I didn't realise I misused this verb. I did know "remind" but I thought "remember" also could be used in this case, since in portuguese we only have one word for both meanings. I actually liked the tip. Improving my English is one of the main reasons I'm in this forum, after all. Otherwise, I'd look for a portuguese-speaking forum. I ask you guys to correct me everytime I say something weird or when you don't understand very well what I'm trying to say.

Anyway, SERIOUSLY THOUGH said everything I had to say about the matter and more, so there's no point for me to keep arguing.

Well like I said it's my opinion on the matter you don't have to agree with it we all have our own minds and opinions, this world would be one boring place if we all thought the same. Smile

Anyway lets get back on topic now, this has gone on long enough.

Hmmm... I won't reply to any of your psychology stuff and answer my OWN... answer >_>

When I get mad, I just play videogames. Since I'm always very concentrated when I play, I never remember that I was angry before. Plus, it's a bonus thing if I'm playing a violent game.

And when I stop playing, I cooled down for the day ^_^

RE: Calming Yourself
I think I already said it in another thread around here, but there were some rare situations in which I got so angry that I started playing REALLY VERY WELL!! The only case I remember now is when I got some bad news from my mom and went to play Half-Life: Deathmatch.

It felt like this:
