Trade Section
What if we had an area of the forum for users to trade virtual goodies and loot and what not? There isn't really a specific place to do that at the moment, aside from the Gaming section, I think it could be helpful for some people looking to upgrade their gear or find silly virtual hats. And no, I don't mean real money trading or anything like that, just item-item stuff.

RE: Trade Section
If we do this I think to alleviate scamming there should be a trade moderator who handles all transactions like an escrow. Things get sent to him to verify they exist, then when the other trader sends their item to the moderator they dispense both items to the recipients. It's a lot of work but it seems reasonably secure.

Oh ho ho ho, I know what you mean. *Wink wink nudge nudge* Alright enough with the charades, you want to turn the forums into a black market......... Well anyway I think it's a fantastic idea... The original trade idea, not the black market idea.

RE: Trade Section
I was just about to make a topic on this, a lot of forums support an active trade / marketplace. I'm not sure how the moderation works in most of them but this website could use one too, with all the interesting ideas that float around on this site I do not doubt that people possess interesting items to sell too.

I think, ideally, one of the moderators would be assigned to oversee trade complaints and enforce the rules, or act as a transition trader if very valuable items are being traded.
So either A: I say I'll give you 2 refined for a taco in TF2, but somehow I scammed you so I got the hat for nothing. THEN you'd complain to the forum admin who would look at both of our inventories and sort it out and/or ban me. Although this would be a very situational thing, It'd be nice to have some security.

Or B: I say I'll give you $500 in items for your bigger, magical taco. I give the moderator the $500, you give him the Taco, and then he gives me the Taco and I give you the $500, again as just another layer of security.

Or probably something completely different, I dunno.

RE: Trade Section
If a trade forum would happen I don't think any of the moderators would want anything to do with it. Since the only way to trade is WAY out of our power to manage. The only way I can see this happen is if people trade stuff with us not being involved at all.

Keep in mind that I'm just a moderator and don't make any decisions regarding this forum other than typical moderation. So my post means nothing to whatever we will get a trading forum or not.

I'd be down either way, the good thing is there is buyer security on paypal as long as money is not gifted. Pictures should be required with usernames in the posts too.

RE: Trade Section
Okay, since I'm the admin now I make (some) of the rules.

At the moment I'm not too fond out the idea of a trade forum. It has mostly to do with me and the other moderators having no power over the deal. So if someone cheats someone else off the good we can do nothing else than shrug and move on. Sure, if there were some blatant evidence we could ban him, but even then it's kind of shady.

I'm not completely shutting down the idea of a trade forum. But at the moment I don't see a big enough interest for one and there's too much we have no power over.

RE: Trade Section
There's really 2 ways of managing things here:

1) Honor system. Absolve DYKG of all liability and offer the trading forum as-is and say that the website is not responsible for people being ripped off, but if there is evidence of one person being ripped off (PayPal receipts, etc) then the offending party can get permabanned.

2) Escrow moderator. When two users want to make a trade they consult a person appointed to oversee the trade forum, each of them send the CD key or something (non-monetary) to the moderator who then holds the key until the other side also sends in their trade. Then the moderator dispenses the traded goods to both parties.

One of them is more labor intensive for the administrators, while the other gives a wider possibility for someone getting ripped off.

I think if you went by the honor system you should make it so only users who have reached a certain amount of posts or status in the community have access to it.

RE: Trade Section
I'm going to think about it.

As it is right now I just don't see enough of requests for this so make a whole forum board for it seems unnecessary at the moment.
