Minecraft villagers and Wind waker

The villagers in Minecraft is probably a reference to the "owl people" (Rito) in The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

I have tried to get this into the trivia in the Minecraft wiki, but they claim that I don't have enough evidence to prove it. Do you need more than this picture? But they do claim that the Iron Golem in Minecraft is a reference to the movie Laputa: Castle in the sky. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Iron_Golem

While I can, possibly, see why you might connect them I still don't see it as being a reference to the Rito.
