Information Super Smash Brothers: Brawl
Characters were originally going to visually show battle damage! You can see some of the injured player textures in the games code.

Hmm, I wonder why they ended up scrapping this idea. Could it be that the Wii couldn't handle it? Or maybe they just thought that it was unnecessary.

Mayeb they thought it would take too much work to do. I mean... they had the textures, so it's probable that the Wii could handle it.

I really doubt it would be too violent. In martial arts manga it's very common to show battle damage through the clothes instead of making the character look all beaten up and bloody.
