Skyrim main quest line broken?

I've been playing through The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and the game runs fine until I get to the old man in the prison cell (sorry, forgot his name) as part of the main quest. It's supposed to go that you talk to him and he opens the door, but after I talk to him the door just stays closed, and if I try to noclip into his room I can't talk to him. Also, if I stab him, he attacks me (the bastard). I've tried reinstalling the game and still, nothing happens.

Need more info, dude. Whereabouts are you? Just have a look at your current quest screen.

I had this same problem. It's a glitch in one of the audio files. I had to extract files manually. There's definitely a fix online. Keep looking.

I didn't have this problem and don't know how to fix it but maybe this can be of some help.

Access your console by pressing the tilde key (~)

Type this in exactly:

setstage MQ203 60

This will basically skip you having to talk to Esbern and having to convince him to go with you to Riverwood. At this stage in the quest, you need to access Sky Haven Temple to learn the secret of Alduin's Wall.

If that console command doesn't work, try some variation of the spacing of the numbers until your quest log gets updated.

The only glitch I encountered whilst playing skyrim is not being able to finish the mages guild xD Sorry man, I hate that feeling.
