Some disabled people cant use the PC or Playstation but CAN use the wii. A man used to work with in a grocery store who we will call "mike" had one working hand, only thing he could play is the wii.
This 3d thing seems to be your personal grudge, im sure a person who can't run hates races for example.
and btw all of us seem to hate kinect and friends, thats not mainstream gaming. The most popular games have no gimmicks, CoD, Skyrim, etc...
And as I have said before BIOSHOCK. A very mainstream game that was a beautiful setting, (best I have ever seen) epic story, great gameplay, awesome soundtrack, and incredibly original and fun. It was made by a team of many, many people. And no indie game can stand close to it.
And you don't like the way EA, Activision, and Blizzard "do business"? Welcome to the real world....you should see companies outside of things like gaming.... and all 3 of these companies patch games and listen to complaints when 99% of there sales on that game have already been made f.y.i. There not as evil as stoner conspiracy theorists like to believe.
There are occasional mainstream games that are fun. I thoroughly enjoyed Dead Rising, for example. Even with the stupid AI. I didn't say every game released for a mainstream console is crap, but I did say there is a large majority.
As far as the accusation that 3D is a "personal grudge", yes it is. So far as you have the necessary equipment to play a game, e.g. fingers and hands, I don't see why people should be shut out of the market like that. I too have a disabled friend who has cerebral palsy, he has use of only one hand. He can manage to kick my ass in Mario Kart 64 and Counterstrike.
Independent companies even sell special controller add-ons for people with injuries or disabilities.
Kinect is total crap, I know it, you know it. Microsoft apparently doesn't. They've redesigned the 360 dashboard into a monumental piece of trash intended to be used with Kinect, why they called it the "Kinect Dashboard". It's difficult to use with a controller, and Kinect-aside, they've attempted to turn the console into an "entertainment hub" instead of a video game console. I don't like the direction the mass market is going, that's the point I made. The market of independent games isn't governed by the lowest common denominator mentality that the rest of the market operates on. There is less financial risk and more variety offered in the indie sector. Video games have become the movie industry, controlled by a small number of large publishers who are unwilling to take risks and would rather saturate the market by churning out the same repeat trash over and over again.
I take offense to the fact that you chock me up as "stoner conspiracy theorist" what's the point in throwing petty bullshit insults around like that? Are you that offended by differing viewpoints that you resort to namecalling when someone else criticizes the shady business practices of "AAA" developers?
- EA consistently purchases smaller studios, guts them, and strings out their newly acquired IPs for as much money as possible.
- EA has an exclusivity contract with the NFL to shut-out competition. There is no need to make a quality game if there is no competition. "Who else will you buy from?"
- EA sells "Online Passes" for console games that are essentially a $10 tax for buying the game used, as EA wants to squeeze as much money out of every consumer as possible.
- Activision has effectively devalued the FPS genre as a whole and altered it to the point where it has become a "cookie cutter" market.
- Blizzard rigs loot drops in Diablo 3 for the sole purpose of ensuring they make a killing on the "Real Money Auction House".
- Capcom is notorious for putting out "DLC" that is nothing more than content already on the disc that they make you pay for again to unlock, rather than being entitled to it like you should be.
- Capcom did not release the full version of Asura's Wrath to consoles and instead sold the final chapters as DLC.
- BioWare and other corporate subsidiaries release incomplete games with day one DLC just to take in even more profits.
- GameStop has little to no competition in most of the country because they simply bought all of their competition and now are worth so much in assets that independent stores cannot compete with them.
THESE ARE VERY BAD THINGS. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out.
There will always be a mass market for video games. I simply choose not to participate in it because of what it has become.
You are entitled to your own opinions regarding consoles and in the independent games market, and you're free to ignore it with blanket statements and arrogance. That isn't my problem.
