Gaming myths you've fallen for
Pretty sure we've all done this as some point.
You have a friend, cousin, older brother/sister, internet site who knows of a way to do [something] in a game that's rumoured to let you access [something].

One that I remember clearly is the Toad in Smash Bros cheat. During the credits, you're giving a minigame similar to Star Fox to shoot the developers names. If you shoot all of them you unlock Toad a hidden character.
I read from multiple sites and heard from a friend that they managed to do it. I gave up after a few tries.

One that I spent hours on, though I can't remember what it was supposed to unlock, was that:
In Mario Kart 64
Pick Mirror Mode
Toads Turnpike
Don't hit any cars and you'll unlock something. I forgot what it was though.

And then there's moving the truck by S.S Anne in Pokemon yellow to find Mew.

Getting the holy materia from Aeris and preventing her death. I did everything people told me to and later, when the internet was actually a thing where you could check stuff, I found out the whole feature was left out of the game or something.

RE: Gaming myths you've fallen for
Hah here was one that my old friend told me to do in Pokemon Blue, when you are in the Safari Zone near the end there were these two statues of NidoKings or NidoQueens and I think he told me interact with the left statue like 50 times and I would get a Pokemon called "NidoGod" or something like that.
(shut up we were like 8 or 9 at the time)

So many pokémon myths that I blindly followed, the reviving of the fossil pokémon in the museum for one (can't quite remember what I had to do, but whatever it was it failed Big Grin)

RE: Gaming myths you've fallen for
Speaking of Pokémon and fondling something 50 times, I've got two seperate things.

First is the hint I got in an old Pokémon magazine where it said that if you hold the [insert buttons here] when you throw/are about to throw/have just thrown/the ball has just closed on the wild pokémon and it makes catching everything as easy as using a master ball. There's like a billion of the variations and as far as I know none of them works. I still press B when the ball has closed on a pokémon, though, just as a good luck charm.

As for pressing something 50 times, I never believed you would actually get something if you searched Wesker's desk in RE2 that many times. Turns out it actually works. I also used to not believe that MissingNO in Pokémon exists.

RE: Gaming myths you've fallen for
I remember when I was 9, my cousin came over for the weekend, and we played my N64. He popped in my copy of Smash Bros, then told me of this "amazing cheat" that lets me play as Bowser. I spent all night trying to do it. The day he left, he told me the truth and that he lied, so I kicked him in the shin.

The only other one I ever fell for was playing as Luigi in Super Mario 64. I wasted three days trying to do it.

I'm so glad we now have the internet to prove people are lying out their asses.

RE: Gaming myths you've fallen for
I always thought you could get a 121st star in Super Mario 64 by hitting the right button combo when talking to Yoshi on top of the castle. I thought you would jump on top of his back and he'd take you to an extra star. Friend of mine got pranked by his older cousin and we spent close to 20 hours of game time hitting random buttons when talking to Yoshi. Yaaaaayyyyyyy...

Oh God, I can't believe I though the "beat the 20 man melee 10 times and you'll unlock Sonic and Tails in Melee" was true
