Japan references in SMB3 & Pokemon

Self explanatory I guess. Japan sure loves itself.

Another thing is that Unova is the only Pokemon region that isn't set in Japan, but was based on NY city's metropolitan area

Interesting. You could also add Pokemon Conquest/ Nobunaga's Revenge.
Nobunaga's Revenge is a series about taking over Japan shogun-style and Pokemon Conquest was a tie-in game. Interestingly, Pokemon Japan or "Ransei" is shaped like Arceus, the Pokemon God.
