The Secret World!
So this game came out in the middle of the summer time (July I believe) and now Funcom announced that they are dropping the subscription but you still have to spend $30 for the game and there will be subscription options and what not. So has anyone played this before? Anyone want to buy it now?

RE: The Secret World!
I've been watching this game for the last three years. Another game like Tera and Guild Wars that does away with WoWs old methods and mechanics of an MMORPG. I've played at it a friends and could see myself getting in it. I knew it would go free-to-play though.

I LOVE their cinematics as well.

I just found out about this game.

It just had to have a subcription fee didn't it.

It originally did but now, after paying $30, you can play it for free and I believe that all future DLC will cost a small amount like $5? (Don't quote me on that) but I am not sure, I like MMORPGs but after awhile I just get tired of them. I just don't want that to happen to this game as well OR FF14 when that comes out on PS3.

I hate it when games give you an optional subscription fee because that means that you will miss out on a bunch of stuff if you choose not to pay. Especially if it used to have a sub fee and then dropped it.

RE: The Secret World!
I sadly gave in and decided to give it a shot, I know it is probably $30 down the toilet but I will still give it a shot, maybe it can hold my attention for awhile.

Isn't $30 half price for a game over there though? $30 for an MMORPG with no online subscription and you know you'll get hundreds of hours of content, seems like a good idea/worth giving a go.

Pretty much - and this game looks both entertaining and long.
If you're still unsure, Xannidel, read some more reviews.

RE: The Secret World!
Ok so I spent some time playing the game and it is pretty interesting, after picking a group (Templars, Dragons or Illuminati) you go through a mini tutorial area where you pick up a weapon (will get into that in a second) and then spend some time exploring and discovering lore items (also will get into that later)

Afterwards you go into this tree of life which acts like a central hub for traveling to other areas. The first place I could travel to is Solomon Island where the town of Kingsmouth ('Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn' anyone?) and you have to do some shit there.

Questing: questing is very different in this game compared to other MMORPGs, you get 1 main quest and you can also have up to 3 side missions at once so it kind of limits what you can do and stuff like that but it also forces the players to come back multiple times to make sure they did not forget any missions and what not. Also most quests require you to use your cell phone to turn in quests and they ship items to you (they are automatically in your inventory upon completing quests)

Weapons and combat: First off, there are no levels that I can see of in this game. When your EXP fills up you gain AP (and sometimes CP). AP is used on weapon skills, for example, say you want to use a tome (blood magic) and you have some AP. You can allocate those points into the blood magic portion and decide on if you want to pout those points into passive or active abilities (will get into that soon). So the more AP you allocate into a particular weapon, the more abilities you have access to. CP is character points, when you gain those points you allocate them into weapon levels or talisman levels. The higher rank a weapon/talisman is in your character screen, that means you can equip higher level items or weapons.

Abilities and Passives: This is where some people might love or hate the game, you only get SEVEN active ability slots and SEVEN passive slots. You can adjust those abilities at any give time so that is helpful.

Also you can equip two weapons but I do not know how to switch them except to manualy move the main weapon to the offhand slot and vice versa.

Lore stuff: Within this game is A LOT of lore related stuff that you can discover by walking all over your current area, I do not believe they offer exp upon discovering them but they add backstory and if you are OCD about discovering them then you will have a BLAST.

I think that covers everything that I have seen up until now.

OH!
Death: Yeah MMORPGs tend to have those moments when your heal is just not enough and you pass on. This game has spawn points and also the ability to run to your body. If you don't want to run to your body you can try to spawn immediately to your body but your items will lose more durability (yeah that's also in this game) so it's alright.

So I think that covers it all.

RE: The Secret World!
Sounds good...or what you'd expect from an MMORPG with it's own style on certain mechanics like levelling and handing in quests. Smile

Yeah its fun however I unlocked the initiate's pack and I can't find out where I go to get those items. It's sort of annoying.

Smaller game devs/companies tend to be good on the customer service front, especially if they have a smaller fanbase - they're not gonna want to lose you Wink
