What do you think of emulators?

I'm not a huge fan of emulating but i use it on games that i bought but never actually beaten cause some asswhole thought it was funny selling my all cartridges and my system(N64) and gameboy. You know the whole nerd regret that he never beaten the games he always wanted to beat.



Oh and im not that type of person who lets things go ethier im gonna go to every flea market, maybe e-bay and get all my games back

but mostly flea markets(half of the people just wants to get rid of it )

But there may be hope. With the new console, OUYA, coming out, the obvious potential of emulators being run on it is great. And with everything I hate about emulators fixed (a good interface and a controller), this could potentially make me really like emulators. That is, if OUYA ends up being what it sets out to be (and I really hope it does well, because it looks like something really really great.)

Anyway, that's my 2¢ on emulators.

I have used a few good GBA and NDS emulators in the past, but playing handheld devices on a PC, using a keyboard just leaves a lot to be desired.

1. Bad design?

I think not. There are emulators that are pretty much flawless in running most games (i.e. snes9x, FCEUX, Visual Boy Advance, ePSXe, etc) and give a good option for emulating consoles you had, or always wanted.

2. Keyboard?

I agree with Symphony. There are a number of USB gamepads that work like a charm and that's not all, the emulators themselves have a great gamepad input (Hell, you can even use the wii classic controller with a bluetooth receiver on your PC, if you have one). I use a Logitech gamepad, similar to the PS2 controller, the D-pad is not the best in the world, but it sure beats the keyboard.

It's not less valid because it's possible to change/fix. I don't have a gamepad to use on my computer.

Probably why you might see it like that. If you had a gamepad, the experience of an emulator is much better. I play N64 games on an Emulator in full 1080P on a Xbox 360 controller. It work great and I'd hate to use a keyboard to play Conkers Bad Fur Day.

I also use DS3 Tool so I can use my PS3 controller on my computer. There's a program called Xpadder which allows you control your computer inputs via a input device of your choice(Xbox 360 gamepad). This is so that you can use it for games like Minecraft which don't come with a gamepad option.

Lastly I use a Street Fighter arcade stick (Which Windows supports) to play on GGPO.
Getting a gamepad would definitely benefit you.

Well, yes, those cartridges are overpriced, but considering brand new games in Brazil usually cost outworldly R$80 to R$199, R$50 for an used game may look like a reasonable deal. In my school days I bought Pokémon Gold from a friend for R$40 (no box, manual or anything like that, just the cartridge) and I was fine with it, because it WAS a good price. Anywhere else I would've spent maybe next to ONE HUNDRED BUCKS for a GAME BOY COLOR GAME!

That was the first and only time I had the chance to play my own Pokémon game in my own Game Boy. From time to time I look for used GBA Pokémon cartridges in the internet to see if a good price comes up and I can finally revive my GBA, but they don't. So I appeal to emulators.

I will say this, and it may have already been said, but emulators do serve one great purpose. And that is, letting you try the game before you buy it. Unlike a demo or trial, emulators let you experience the game for what it truly is, and for that purpose, I think they are great.

I know this topic may shock most of you but let's put it like this. If you want something but its way old and you can't get it, you will run the game on emulation inorder to get it right. That's what I'd do normally for the SNES or Genesis or Nes which are way old and are no longer in production.

I feel this is ridiculous for nintendo to still say its illegal to even say its still illegal even if the game expired. I mean I only play SNES, Nes and Genesis on emulator whereas I have bought latest stuff like GBA, GCN, DS and 3DS.

so what you think? If this is another annoying thread, I'm sorry. I just wanted to spill out something that isn't right.

Along with my Spyro HD post, I'd also like to add that I can play Dreamcast games in 1080 which is amazing.

You guys all know my love for Dreamcast right, well now it sort of turned into more than love, a word I cannot conceive.

I can't believe that nintendo still finds this illegal. If they want their old games to be sold, either they need to port every last one of them in eshop or make it cheap price.

Yet I can't help but admire the beauty of Earthbound through my Emulator ZSNES
