My personal favorite would be SNES controllers. The round ends, perfect amount of buttons and d-pad. You can play for hours without a problem.

The Xbox 360 comes in second for me. I love the way it feels, perfect size and the buttons are placed perfectly. The d-pad sucks, I admit, but I almost never use it unless I have to. I like the placement of the analog sticks as well. The triggers are perfect, they respond perfectly for FPS games too.

I love the Gamecube controller as well, it's comfortable and has the analog sticks placed right.

The controllers I hate are the first run NES controllers. As a kid it was fine, as I got older and my hands grew, the corners of the controller started to dig into my hands. The second run with the rounded edges and better A,B button placement make it perfect.

I also dislike the Playstation controllers, each of them. There's a few reasons why I've not bought into the Playstation brand, and the controllers are the number one reason. The triggers are buttons that barely respond in FPS games, I never feel like I'm squeezing off the rounds I should be. The analog and d-pad placement are horrible, and stretching my thumb to lay on the left stick is painful after ten minutes. The face buttons and d-pad are fine, I'm okay with the shapes instead of letters, but overall I can't use them.

The N64 has a horrible controllers. Like the NES, it worked for me as a kid, as an adult, it's cumbersome to use.
