RE: Zelda 2014 Details - (Unconfirmed) - Hexadecimal - 09-08-2012 06:41 AM I can really take or leave voice acting. I started playing games without them and I can continue to. Yes, voice acting can certainly affect the mood as Fragile Dreams for the Wii proved. The voice acting was so outstanding it was a big reason for me crying so hard. It can also have a negative impact if handled poorly, though. It's really a risk I don't think Nintendo is willing to take, though. If the subject has ever come up I'm sure they've concluded they're scared to death to try it because out of fear the fans will freak the heck out. I just hope they don't pull the stupid Rareware move like with Nuts and Bolts and make the text unreadable for standard TVs (sure the fixed it, but it still...). I do have hearing problems so I hate that having subtitles on is pretty useless nowadays. A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time are my favorite games of all time, and I would love for the new game to be just like that but more so. I would always play, and when I got close to the end I would quit and start a new file, because I never wanted it to end. I always hoped they would do a huge game where when we finally got awesome stuff (like the hookshot, lens of truth, etc.) we would have so much more time/places to use it. I also hope there's a lot more sidequests and collecting. I always loved that. Hellz yeah. I honestly though that one of Skyward Swords strengths was the story telling. Would love to see magic return to Zelda too. I also would like to see them add a quest book (much like the Bombers Note Book from Majoras Mask). I enjoyed how they worked a quest system around a 3 day period, it's pretty damn clever when you think about it and how it works with the time mechanic. Another good addition would be having FULL towns and villages. If you look at Kakariko village from OoT there aren't many people; obviously back then it seemed big. But when you look at Hyrule Town in Twilight Princess, that's on the level of Assassins Creed. Skyward Sword didn't have this and the entire world felt empty. @Hexadecimal Have you adjusted your Xbox to the correct TV standard and changed your TV settings though? Subtitles shouldn't be a issue. RE: Zelda 2014 Details - (Unconfirmed) - Hexadecimal - 09-08-2012 09:45 AM (09-08-2012 09:43 AM)BumblebeeCody Wrote: @Hexadecimal I'll have to look into that! I thought what you saw when you initially booted up the game was what you were stuck with, which was why Rare made the patch to make the text bigger. RE: Zelda 2014 Details - (Unconfirmed) - A Zombie Riot - 09-08-2012 09:48 AM Do you have an HDTV or an SDTV? Because if you have an SDTV, there really isn't much you can do to fix the tiny text. HDTV's are cheap now anyways. RE: Zelda 2014 Details - (Unconfirmed) - Hexadecimal - 09-08-2012 09:49 AM (09-08-2012 09:48 AM)A Zombie Riot Wrote: Do you have an HDTV or an SDTV? SDTV. Yeah, one of these days I'll get one. It'll be nice to have to have a lighter TV anyways for when I do cleaning and such. RE: Zelda 2014 Details - (Unconfirmed) - A Zombie Riot - 09-08-2012 09:56 AM I remember I used to play games on the 360 on an SDTV. Couldn't read anything on some games. It's weird, the text is basically meant for HDTV. It can be the same exact size as your SDTV and yet it'll be more clearer (if this sounds confusing, I'm sorry). My TV cost about $1000 and I got it like 5 years ago. I can find my same size TV for probably around $400 now (maybe even less, it's a 42"). RE: Zelda 2014 Details - (Unconfirmed) - Hexadecimal - 09-08-2012 09:59 AM I really do need to get with the times. Catherine was super hard for me to play not only because I had to get right in front of the TV screen and squint to read text messages but because the puzzles were really meant to be played on a bigger screen. On my standard everything was so small I couldn't even see that trap blocks were trap blocks. It just sucks that I live in a tiny town. I have next weekend off so I'll go to one that's about an hour away that has lots of electronic stores I can compare prices with. It's actually 720 so it isn't as much as a strain on SDTVs like the PS3 is (but who uses component cable on a PS3?) Also, (NOT trying to sound forceful) but SDTV shouldn't be used anymore. It's worth buying a cheap 20inch HD TV now because you can't stay with SDTVs any longer with the way technology is going. RE: Zelda 2014 Details - (Unconfirmed) - A Zombie Riot - 09-08-2012 10:02 AM They're great. And they're cheap too. Hopefully you'll get one soon. Link to the Past wasn't that big, nor was OoT or MM but they are some of the best games ever made. Quality over quantity. And most of that is empty space. Take it out and the game is fairly simple and small. It's also a lot easier to place tiles than it is to create 3D areas. My point stands. Edit: Actually I just flat out disagree with your statement about LTTP being big. You can go from one side to the other in about 2 minutes. http://zs.ffshrine.org/link-to-the-past/maps/light_world-1.png RE: Zelda 2014 Details - (Unconfirmed) - Beware of Cuccos - 09-08-2012 01:20 PM (09-08-2012 09:43 AM)BumblebeeCody Wrote:(09-07-2012 12:07 PM)Beware of Cuccos Wrote: I personally hope it's bigger all around. I haven't had a chance to play Skyward Sword yet, but I have watched the walkthrough. After they said something about how the goddess broke Skyloft off of the Earth and placed it above the clouds, I spent the rest of the time hoping at the end it would take it's place back down on Earth and all the different characters and races could mingle. I swear I watched that walkthrough like it was a movie. (I also fell in love with Groose when he was all shaky but standing in front of "Granny" protecting her) RE: Zelda 2014 Details - (Unconfirmed) - retrolinkx - 09-08-2012 07:26 PM (09-08-2012 10:59 AM)DidYouKnowGaming Wrote:(09-07-2012 05:07 PM)retrolinkx Wrote:(09-07-2012 08:43 AM)DidYouKnowGaming Wrote: Frankly I'd rather them scale Zelda back. For the time, I guess it was big, and to complete it, you'd have to do a lot more than some of the Zelda games today, 12 dungeons is still more than any other Zelda game, and the second world is also quite a stretch. Another thing to keep in mind is you were always going back and forth (especially if you wanted a full playthrough) which made it seem even more vast. RE: Zelda 2014 Details - (Unconfirmed) - retrolinkx - 09-09-2012 01:12 AM ^ I did that a lot, on my version I have about 17 hearts and all the items and upgrades, I spent a lot of time playing it when I was young, I finished it last January, I started playing this when I was about 9 so yeah, it's lengthy. Even though I somehow ended with only 249 deaths. RE: Zelda 2014 Details - (Unconfirmed) - BumblebeeCody - 09-09-2012 05:12 AM @Beware of Cuccos You haven't played SS! *Gasp*. Well I guess if you know the story then that's really all that's important. It's a key story point in the Zelda timeline. Also, what Retrolinx was saying, ALttP(and Minish Cap) wasn't big, but it definitley felt it because of how interesting Hyrule was. You couldn't really go anywhere without there being something to do. Zelda TP was (I think) the biggest Zelda game created but it didn't feel dull travelling through Hyrule. However in Skyward Sword the world didn't serve any purpose other than a hub world to go to each different location and Skyloft had hardly anything interesting to do. It was supposed to feel like the opposite of TWW which had a huge vast ocean to explore with small islands or points of interest but in the sky. What I'm saying is, it's not really about scale but how Hyrule is occupied and what you can do. ALttP was small but had a lot to do, SS was the same but meh. |
