Monster Hunter 4
Just saw the trailer for Monster Hunter 4, sitting a bit like this at the moment: Here's the trailer, definitely looking forward to it.

Oh, and if you haven't played Monster Hunter Tri, go play dat sheet, you can pick a used copy up for twenty bucks and it's by far the most underrated game I've played in a while. AND IT LET'S YOU STAB GIANT DINOSAURS WITH YOUR OWN STABBING UTENSILS THEN CARVE THEIR SKIN INTO MORE STABBING UTENSILS. Sort of like Megaman.

Glad I'm not the only Monster Hunter Fan here. I'm excited, always been a dual sword guy myself just becuase you feel ASWEOME that way, even if you have zilch blocking...and attack... just good speed... Maybe I need to re-think weapon choice...?

I've always been intrigued about Monster Hunter, but I haven't had a chance to play any of them.

It's kinda related to MH4. But there's a demo for MH3: Unlimited for the 3DS and WiiU. Currently playing it now on 3DS.

RE: Monster Hunter 4
So what's this game about ? All I see in the video is hackin' and slashin' monsters. Do you reap their souls, get xp, use their bones, etc ?

RE: Monster Hunter 4
I've honestly only played Tri because screw the PSP, but as far as I know, you kill monsters then carve their corpses to get materials which you then use to get better gear. Think of the levels like dungeons in an MMO only a lot more open ended with multiple objectives and a lot more focus on the Boss fight.
In single player, there is no set XP system, all of your stats come from your items and equipment. The same goes for multiplayer, although there is a Hunter Rank system where you get points based on how well you did in your last hunt that scales like an XP bar. This doesn't really affect your stats or anything, but unlocks more missions to play through that scale to the type of gear you should have by than point: It's more there for balance than anything so a party of 3 really skilled hunters doesn't get stuck with one ch00b.

...so, like Diablo with a bunch of mini-Diablos?

I played the demos today. I was originally planning on getting the Wii U version but I tried it on 3DS as well. The controls felt kind of..awkward but then I played the Wii U demo and it looked beautiful. The controls were way easier. Can't wait for the game.

As for MH4 I'm not sure how I feel about it just yet. The game itself looks amazing with the new mechanics and all but it would be nice if it was on a console. It seems like you'll need a circle pad pro to fully enjoy it.

Yeah, the demo on the 3DS feels great for me, but the fucking camera is terrible, which from what I've heard was a major problem for the PSP games as well. I haven't picked up a Wii U yet, but since they're shutting down the Wii's Tri servers I'm going to grab one.

Also, is it me or is Gun Lancer really terrible?

It's great cause you can also use the Wii remote as an alternative I believe.

I agree with you on the Gun lance thing. I almost never used the regular lance in the first place so I couldn't even figure out basic combos. I just kept spamming the attack + shoot combination until my ammo ran out.
