Still cool though. Imagine having kids in like 10 years and they go "Daddy/Mommy, what is this?" and we'd be like "Oh, this is what we used to watch movies on before DVD's were invented."

I actually have a DVD/VHS player Tongue What a great purchase it has been. For some reason I prefer my old horror movies on VHS.

After 10 years they would propably answer that with a question "What's a DVD?" As sad as that might be I'm afraid it could very well be true.

Well, then, they'd just ask "What is this slot for?" and the rest is history.

Just another apartment. But to me apartments are just really expensive storage units that you sleep in. Undecided

You know what sucks about that too? Is in like 10 years, our kids won't play these wonderful consoles because the graphics aren't pretty enough.

Man, I remember the jump from Gen 6 to Gen 7 in consoles. And now I look back at it, it's crazy to see how far video games have come.

I love playing my old games (though I don't have any old consoles, most of my old games are either through Virtual Console or XBLA). Gameplay holds up really well these days.

That's why my kid's first console will be a NES. No new console until they have sucked in all the greatness of yesteryears.

I'd never thought of it that way, but you've nailed the proverbial nail on the head.

That's what I'm planning to do. Rather than let the kiddies get the latest 3D augmented-reality legit Super-High-Def Noscopez-machine, I'm going to give them a block GameBoy, then when they're six or seven, they can get a N64, then at 13, they'll get a PS2 and/or Gamecube. As a college/university present, they can then get whatever they want.

Perfect plan.

On another note, I can't stand parents that buy things like iPads to their friggin' 4-year-olds. Ridiculous.

Same ! Our grandparents were giant technophobes who didn't want computers and things in their house so we got them an iPad last christmas for some video-chat over Skype. They love it and use it for news, weather, etc.

It's simple for them to use - what with the touchescreen and the single button - so they adhered to it pretty much straight away Smile

EDIT - Punctuation

A couple of years ago we got her a laptop.

But yeah, for old people, i'm sure iPads are much easier to use.
