I'll use emulators for older games that are hard to find the newest emulator I have had was for Game Cube, (had because I keep emulators on my flash drive and that thing was about a good 3 GB of space for one game and the emulator on a 16 GB flash drive, not worth the space) which is pretty old now by technological standards. Also they give you a lot more control over your games, hell I'll download games I actually own just so I can save in the middle of a level and come back later, or save high scores since the game doesn't save them itself when turned off. (Gradius III doesn't save high scores so I have to open a saved game every time I start that.)

I play on PC emulators all the time.

I used to use them but now i collect so i dont really need them.

I collect old games, but use an emulator to play them, because they look better on emulators. I think if you own the game legally (preferably in a way so that the developers get your money), then emulators are fine.

To be honest I'm pretty shocked to see how conservative this forum is when it comes to game piracy. I thought like 90% of people would emulate anything more then 1 generation old and like 75 percent download whatever they simply don't need to have physically haha.

Any game I want but don't REALLY want I download immediately. Dishonored is my newest.

I use emulators for a few reasons.

1. For games I can't find or get easily. For example games you can't find on Wii-shop channel
2. If I want to play a game that I'm not sure if I'll like it or not.
3. Also to have a portable system to play.

If I really like the game (and its available) I'll purchase it Wii shop channel. I have so many copies of Zelda 1 because of this. I like using their controllers over using a key pad (though I am thinking of getting an x-box controller with USB port). Right now I only have an NES emulator and Atari 2600. I want an Neo-Geo, CD-I, and Arcade emulator but haven't been able to get any of them to work with the games I want.

I use emulators all the time, generally for Japanese Gameboy games I have no other way of playing.

I take it you understand Japanese ?

Last time I played a Japanese game (which was a kind of Super Smash Bros for ShonenJump (or at least that's the name I can come up with)) and I understood absolutely diddly-squat. But that game didn't really have a storyline so all dat squiggle on my screen was ignorable

I don't speak or read Japanese at any competent level, but there are phrases and kanji that I recognize. But I'm not playing RPGs or anything, mostly puzzle games and platformers.

Last one I looked at was Tekkyu Fight! Great Battle Gaiden, which is pretty much a platform beat'em up, so it's not too hard to figure out what's going on. On the other hand, Kakutou Ryouri Densetsu Bistro Recipe would be so much easier with either an English patch or a better understanding of Japanese.

Emulation as in, for example, Virtual Arcade or emulation as in the pirated kind?

For the first: I don't really buy games digitally, aside from a few hard to obtain PS titles.

For the second: Considering that some games are almost impossible to find anymore or cost waaaay too much for someone with a budget, emulation is a good way to get to know some of the classics or games that haven't been released in your country. I use emulation, though nowadays I mostly use it for LPs because capture cards and whatnot are horribly expensive D:
