Baten Kaitos Origins for the GameCube, and Shenmue for the Sega Dreamcast, two of the best RPGs that I have ever played yet no one knows of them. I just wish Shenmue would have actually finished because it lead off into a second one that was made for the Xbox (which I played) and that one also lead off so they could make a trilogy but the third one doesn't seem like it will ever get made.

I only played Shenmue once, but damn was it a good game on the Dreamcast.

The only one I've never heard before, Hex, was that last one.

Not sure if this is unkown of just not talked about. A game by the name of Cubivore for the GameCube. I don't know why, but its simple design and concept blew me away, not to mention how fun In found it. for some reason, playing as, what was basically, a wild animal surviving in the harsh world was enjoyable. This game is why I like Tokyo Jungle, a game with the same concept of animals surviving in the wild.

Also, maybe Killer7. Again, I'm unsure if it's unknown or just not talked about, but it's still a fun game.

^ Stretch Panic is actually tons of fun, despite the really odd super boobs women you have to defeat to get points in order to open doors. It's just a succession of boss battles, but they're really well done.

The problem with Cubivore is that it's an Atlus USA game and not advertised at all; I still don't recall how I heard about it and ended up paying way too much when I found it at a Game Stop by chance. I was really impressed as well, and only bought it due to the brand, since every single Atlus game I'd been picking up I ended up loving.

I think people have at least heard of Killer 7, but have probably forgotten about it by now. I think Shadows of the Damned will eventually go the same way.

Well, I actually first found out about Cubivore long before I even knew the Atlus name. I was just looking in a magazine (back when gaming mags were actually better than the internet) and saw this awesome poster for a game with weird block-shaped animals. I was, I don't know, 10, so I thought it looked amazing. When I finally picked it up, which was when I was 17 (hard to find game), I couldn't believe this was made by the same people who brought me Nocturne and the Persona games.

Also, Shadows of the Damned wasn't really all too good in my opinion. It felt too much like Resident Evil 4, and not like a Suda51 game. Where was the balls-out insanity? Where was the flair and showmanship? Same thing with Lollipop Chainsaw. It just didn't feel like a Suda game, and that's the worst thing that could happen to a game he made. It think he lost his touch after the No More Heroes games.

^ Neat. In my case it was just looking through a list of games Atlus made and happened to see it for the current system at the time. Oh wow, that's quite a time gap; I hope the price was at least reasonable.

Well, truth be told, I haven't played a whole lot of Suda51 games so I'm afraid I can't chime in that much. I am really enjoying Shadows of the Damned, though. I hate how gross it is, but I really love Garcia and Johnson; their banter is great. I dislike not being able to skip cut scenes, but I've enjoyed what I've experienced so far. I planned on finishing it this weekend, but the whole pet death got in the way...

Phantom Crash, seriously it's just mechs fighting but with more variety in what you can do, and it isn't overly complicated, it's just "fight, win money, buy more weapons, fight again" the music is amazing, and it's a brilliant game, much better than Hawken in my opinion.

KuruKuru Kururin While the name sounds weird, and the gameplay looks weird, it's actually a great game, I finished it in my childhood, and it was actually on of my favourite Game Boy Advanced games, the music, how it plays, how it looks, it was made brilliantly is decent in it's own regard. I think it was a launch game for the Game Boy Advanced anyway, so for a launch game it was great.

Radiata Stories for the PS2 was an amazing RPG with a day and night cycle and also over 150 unique characters you could recruit and they all had their own path pattern and you had to find ways to recruit them.

Awwww yeah, that game made no sense whatsoever but damn was it fun (and, as you say, totally underplayed)

Of all the games posted so far I've only heard of Cubivore and Killer 7, I also just remembered another game that was amazing but didn't get any publicity, Jet Set Radio for the Sega Dreamcast. (It was called Jet Grind Radio in North America but I like the original Japanese name better.)

Edit: HOLY CRAP! I just found out by randomly reading the Wikipedia on that game, that it got re-released on PSN, XBLA, and Windows (under the original name) just last month, I know what I'm buying.

It was actually just Jet Grind Radio without the "Set" part for the states.

That was a game I frantically searched for once I finally obtained a Dreamcast. I really suck at it, but it's a ton of fun to play! I love the music and Professor K is totally the best character.

You reminded me of another Dreamcast game that's a bit obscure called Illbleed. They were working on a remake for the XBox, but it was dropped. It's actually pretty hard in that there's a few monitors like blood loss, stamina, and I forget the other that can make you die and the traps in the game are randomized.

You basically try to make your way through a demented amusement park to will a cash prize.

I'd link you to some game play, but youtube is being really stupid right now.

I actually looked up the gameplay myself for Illbleed and it looked pretty interesting and fun, it also reminded me of Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem for the Gamecube, another great game of the same genre, this one has more just been forgotten than not known about in general, although it wasn't very widely known anyway. Also if you like Jet Set Radio read the edit of the last post I did, I think you will like what I found out.

I wouldn't say these games no-one knows about, especially with JSR and Shenmue. but Baten Kaitos and Killer 7 are two hidden gems on the GameCube.
If you currently own an Xbox 360 or PS3, then you need to buy Deadly Premonition.

"Oh yeah that BumblebeeCody is passively trolling me now with this game". Nah blad, this game is frikkin' awesome. Yeah it looks like a troll but I was impressed with the game. If you want an awesome soundtrack with variety (Life if Beautiful), an interesting cast with developed personalities (especially York - the Protagonist), a great suspenseful thriller with an amazing story, then you'll love Deadly Premonition.
I think it's worth that I mention, that it's honestly the best hidden gem I've played this generation.

Well I wouldn't say that no one knows about them because they are quite popular in Japan, the Mother/Earthbound games are great though, and not well known here in the states or in Europe (as far as I know).
