The Official Horror Movie Discussion Thread
Yeah, I could have just made a "Movie Discussion Thread", but that would be dumb and pointless. Horror is one of my favorite genre's of movie. Anyway the point of this thread is to discuss Horror movies.

Go on, it's fun and easy.

RE: The Official Horror Movie Discussion Thread
I like the actual horror movies rather than Hollywood stupid teenager deaths scenes "horror/gore". Ones that leave you with your heart racing, have an eerie atmosphere and can even make you question the people around you and ask questions like "Why am I here? Is this real?".

Like that time I went to see the Justin Bieber: Never say never movie.

I guess good movies:
Alien/s
Silence of the Lambs
The Ring
Blair Witch
6th sense
Carrie
Psycho
The Grudge
The Thing
R-point
The Shinning
Let The Right One In
28 Days Later
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Poltergeist
The Birds and Night of the Living Dead (I love the old style to these films)

I can appreciate all forms of horror. No horror movie is more real than another. More realistic, maybe, but not more real. Horror is a genre that allows for extreme seriousness and complete and utter nonsense, respectively. It's wide range of possibilities is one of the things I love about the genre most. To completely disregard the less serious, more comical, more fun and ridiculous side of horror, to me, seems irresponsible in that a lot is left to be appreciated. That's just my opinion, though.

Please...there's no need to bring Canadian pop stars into the Horror movie section.

Some of my favorite horror movies (although it's very hard not to list a billion movies) include:
SAW (Entire series, not just the first movie and not just the first couple movies.)
Scream (series)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (Original. I did enjoy the remake, though)
Eden Lake (one of the better helpless, torture movies I've seen)
Alien (Also enjoyed Prometheus)
John Carpenter's the Thing (I also did like the 2011 prequel)
The People Under the Stairs (One of Wes Craven's best movies)
Idle Hands (probably one of the best horror comedies)
Cry Wolf
Frozen
My Soul to Take (Wes Craven doing what he does best)
127 Hours (I do consider this a horror movie. Although obviously not your traditional style of horror.)
Zombieland

I could list a ton more, but whatever. We'll let this thread continue.

I'd also mention Freaks. As it is the oldest horror movie I've seen (1932), and has one of the strongest messages of all the horror movies I've seen.

I'm a big fan of Wes Craven, by the way. Big Grin

I'm not really a fan of horror movies. I never found them appealing, but a good zombie movie is always appreciated. Night of the Living Dead is definitely a classic that is still greatly watchable.

Well said. I just mean films like SAW/Final Destination (to me) aren't really scary but more of gore eye candy.

Absolutely. Although SAW isn't that gory. The reason it's one of my favorite series is because I love the story. I know some people watch it just for the traps and for the blood, and I think that's why they only end up watching the first couple movies, and why I watched them all. I love the Final Destination Movies, though, because they're awful and great at the same time.

I don't usually find horror movies to be scary (which is one of the reaosn I prefer the term "horror movie" as opposed to "scary movie"), maybe jumpy or startling, but not scary. It's very rare when I find one that actually scares me.

I loved both the SAW films and the Final Destination films. SAW because of the creativity. Those traps were very unique. The story line was interesting as well. And Final Destination because those are just horribly fantastic.

I don't really handle gory horror very well... And if I'm with my regular group of friends, we just make up ridiculous backstories for the characters which sap any fear out of it Big Grin

You should watch Dead Alive. Best, and probably most, gore in a movie ever. Quite hilarious.

RE: The Official Horror Movie Discussion Thread
I looooooooooooooooooooooove everything horror! I guess I'm just insane in the head BUT THAT'S PART OF THE FUN! I have no idea what is happening here, I'm tired. Aaaaanyway...

Some of my favorite (and some of the scariest) horror movies are The Grudge, The Eye, REC and Paranormal Activity, all of them. Exceptions being The Grudge 3 which kinda just crapped on the whole series and REC 3/4 as I haven't seen them yet. I also haven't seen the original Grudge (Ju-On) movies. The game does look proper scary but alas, no Wii.

My favorite horror movie series still are Evil Dead, Friday the 13th and The Dead. They aren't scary but I still do get a lot of fun out of them. Evil Dead remake, we shall see in the theaters! Or, if I'm lazy, on my couch. It's a date!
