The level 'Shy Guy Bazaar' in Mario Kart 7 for the 3DS is made as a reference/tribute to Mario Bros. 2 (USA Version)

The references are found as the pots in the ground are the same used in Mario Bros 2,

There are giant turnips in the ground,

The towels/carpetd in the level have the actual sprite of those creepy face things from the game,

There are Shy Guy's on flying Carpets,

And there are Bomb-omb lanterns (Bomb oms originated in this game!).

Derp, I didn't notice that. Well... Shy guys were also introduced to us at Mario 2 if I'm not mistaken, so...
