Well, maybe they can, but regardless.
In the Japanese Version of Super Mario Kart for the SNES, Bowser and Peach's victory animations show them drinking champagne, as we all know stuff like this is cool in Japan, everywhere else in the world is another story. Before they released the game in America, they changed the victory animations to be Bowser and Peach holding the bottle instead of drinking it, this stayed true in the European versions too.
Bowser's Japanese Victory Pose, showed him literally chugging down the Champagne.
In the international version he just jumps and moves the bottle up and down.
This goes the same for Peach, who is shown sipping it (and looking a bit tipsy), in the Japanese version.
But for the International, she throws it up in the air.
