Trying to get into Anime, any reccomendations?
I've never really been a big fan of anime, despite everyone around me loving it, including my best friend who writes anime dragon porn... sort of wish I was kidding about that. Anyways, I'm trying to get into it, and so far all I've watched has been a few episodes of Naruto and Bleach, neither of which I was very fond of, as well as the entire series of Ranma 1/2, which I watched on account of a lost bet, where I had to watch an episode a day, every day, and give my friend a summary of each episode I watched every day for several months, and it's a romantic comedy anime about a magical transvestite... not quite my cup of tea. Good music though.

So, can anyone recommend a good anime I can get into that isn't too cheesy or to romantic-y?

RE: Trying to get into Anime, any reccomendations?
Well it all depends on what your preferences are, I personally think Angel Beats, Darker Than Black, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood are amazing, and are my top three. I'll give a summary of what to expect from each one so you kinda know what you're going into if you decide to watch any of them.

Angel Beats: Great drama/comedy/action that I gotta admit at first kinda seems like a dumb anime but a few episodes in the story gets pretty deep and it just really sucked me in, and since it's 12 half hour episodes long I was able to watch it all in one day, kinda like an extra long movie. Warning though, this anime's story can get very depressing. One more thing if you're felling up to it, I suggest you watch this one in English sub, not dub, because some of the jokes are lost, like one of the characters always speaks English in the original Japanese audio, and his dialogue consist of random phrases, and I found it to be hilarious. This joke however is somewhat lost in the English dub because he still speaks English.

Darker Than Black: Action/thriller anime with a story that is mysterious in a way as it never reveals to much about the story at one time, tends to leave you in suspense for the duration of the episodes, which are usually in two parts making it two separate half hour episodes to finish one.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood: Action/thriller anime that has some of the best backstory I've seen, and usually leaves you guessing as to what's really going on in the main story.

Also about the animes you have tried watching, I personally don't like Naruto because it just drags on and on and on, and is kinda like DBZ in that manner, if you want a good fight scene it's great, but it feels stale and lacking in the story department, same for most of Bleach, the first couple seasons were amazing but then it just started to suck, in my own opinion.

I haven't watched some much animé in my time, but I do recommend Deathnote - the story, music, voices were very decent (even if I hate those squeaky-ass female voices they sometimes do). Watch whatever you want to watch in Japanese, in my opinion it's better with subtitles than dubbed.

Also, Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series is hilarious if you have 5-10 minutes to spare for an episode

Cowboy Bebop and Death Note are pretty amazing.

Thank me later.

Also, you should try and find at least one you like, so that you'll have a genre you prefer, I don't mind as long as it's interesting. Darker than Black and Death Note were very interesting, as they had a interesting plot as well as some action here and there, but something like Cowboy Bebop and Gurran Laggan I liked because it was mainly action and comedy together.

You should tell us some things you'd want to see in an anime, if you want humour, than a lot of anime's have that. If you want a good 2deep4u story then ask.

Tiger and Bunny, Mirai Nikki, Samurai Champloo, and Trigun might be up your alley.

Firstly, turns out he took down some of the raunchier stuff since the last time I looked at it, it used to be a romantic Spyro the Dragon fan fiction... still sort of is. But he edited out the Rule 34 imagery. [LINK]

Secondly, I've watched every episode of Yugiosh Abirdged, GX Abridged, Ninjabridged, and Abridgimon. Loved them all, I'm looking for a real anime though so my buddies with metal in their asses will stop making fun of me :C

@Everyone else, I'm going to check out Full Metal Alchemist, Death note, Cowboy Bepbop, Case Closed and Sword Art Online. I forgot to mention that I watched some of Dragon Ball Z, Naruto and One Piece, wasn't a big fan of any of them.

Try an anime called s-CRY-ed. Not a terribly long anime but a really good one in my books. Also if you ever played Persona 4 then there is an anime that you might be interested in.

If you do get into Case Closed, beware its a long running anime (Nearly 700+ episodes).

I am deeply disappointed by the fact that no one has mentioned Soul Eater, Katekyo Hitman Reborn or Code Geass yet.

If you haven't watched much anime, I really think Soul Eater is a good place to start.

^

Code Geass had a very interesting plot, but got boring after the 19th episode. Seriously from there the plot become more retarded and it wasn't interesting.

Watch all the AMV Hell videos. If that doesn't get you into anime, nothing will. It's also a good reference guide and helped me find a bunch of interesting animes back when I knew nothing about them.

It is more on the cheesy romantic but a good starter anime would be Inuyasha. It isn't too bazaar considering some anime and lasts pretty long. Past that, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, DBZ (if you don't mind a lot of talking), Outlaw Star, High School of the Dead, and Full Metal Alchemist (can't say I've seen the modern one). I don't watch anime nearly as much as I used to but I really liked these.
