- Know your weapons, first and foremost. Don't just pick a gun that looks good, pick the right weapon for your play style. If you want to sit back and take your shots, stick with rifles or bolt action rifles. If you like to run and gun, get into the shit and get out, take a submachine gun or a machine gun. Keep in mind that machine guns are heavy to carry and take a long time to reload.
- It's quicker to switch to your sidearm, which should be a pistol since you're starting out, then it is to reload your primary weapon.
- Use the right perks for the job. Don't waste your time with a perk that won't help your weapon usage. Perks like Overkill and Double Tap are a waste of time. Stick with perks like Sleight of Hand (faster reloading), Stopping Power, Extreme Conditioning.
- Know your equipment, how it works and when to use it. Don't throw a grenade into the air and expect a kill, and use the right grenades for the job (a tank grenade won't help you clear a room).
- Learn your maps, and the easiest way is to take a quarter of the map for yourself, and patrol it. Don't sit in one spot, constantly move around your area of the map, keeping the enemy guessing while you learn that area. Once you feel comfortable defending that piece of land, move onto the next part of the map.
- You don't need to rack up big time kills to help your team. Your goal is to stay alive as long as possible, and not give the enemy killstreaks. If you manage to get five kills and one death, that's a good game, and don't let anyone tell you it's not.
- Use your killstreaks at the right times. Recon Planes are always useful, as long as the radar isn't jammed. Mortars, attack dogs, call them in ASAP, when you get to a safe place to let you rack up kills. There's no point in holding that kill streak, your team needs the kills.
- If you play an objective mode, like Domination, or Capture the Flag, work for that objective. You can have a lousy K/D ratio, but win the game. Of course, you don't want to hand the enemy team killstreaks, so finding a balance between getting the objective without dying needs to be found, so find it.
- Support your team. See an enemy about to shoot your friend, shoot them first! Don't wait to fire on the enemy, that could cost you and your friend his life.
With these tips, you can easily learn and master World at War, or any COD game for that matter.
