It's what you said. A huge fighting game tournament where people all over the world come to compete. Just Street Fighter IV had 1500 contestants. They do this once a year to decide who is the best fighting player in a collection of games.

EVO have been going for roughly 10 years now. Stay and watch MvC3 (Marvel) today. The game is insanely fun to watch. So much excitement/hype.
