Final Fantasy Spinoffs
No idea if this has been posted before, get rid of the thread if it has.

The Mana series (known in Japan as Seiken Densetsu) actually started off as a spinoff to Final Fantasy, called Final Fantasy Adventure (jap. Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden) for the Game Boy. The FF elements the game originally had were dropped in the remake, Sword of Mana for GBA. Interestingly enough, the original game was called Mystic Quest in Europe while the actual Final Fantasy Mystic Quest game that was released a couple years later was named Mystic Quest Legend in the European market. Confusing, isn't it?

A somewhat similar story, the SaGa series started out as a Final Fantasy spinoff too. Well, at least in North America, as the first three SaGa games were released there as Final Fantasy Legend 1-3 despite having any connection to the common themes in the series. The series continued with the SaGa name from Romancing SaGa onwards but when the first three games were re-released in 1998 they were still named Final Fantasy Legend despite the original plans of naming them The Great Warrior Saga.

RE: Final Fantasy Spinoffs
Yes, both the Mana and SaGa series are Final Fantasy spin-offs, and like Kingdom Hearts and Crystal Chronicles are part of the franchise. However as you may've seen, the later installments don't retain any of the regular Final Fantasy locales.

RE: Final Fantasy Spinoffs
I guess the part that gives away Crystal Chronicles being a spinoff to the series is the fact that its full name is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.

RE: Final Fantasy Spinoffs
SaGa does keep the main theme of Deicide though, so that's a thing.
