Mass Effect 3 Question

Since this game will be a launch window game for the WiiU I am tempted to buy it.

Do you guys think I can jump into Mass Effect 3 without playing or even knowing anything about the previous games? I really enjoyed Dragon Age and I know it's the same decision making theme, which is why i'm tempted.

Edit: If you guys say "no you should play the first 2" I'm not going to, simply just not going to buy ME3.

will that is a difficult question.i think you should go for it though once you finish the game than you can imagine the first two games were prequels.

Yeah while I never played Mass Effect 1, I did play Mass Effect 2 on the PS3 that came with that interactive comic that you chose what happened in 1 in a shorter time then playing it and since 3 is built off of some things you did in 2, I would advise you play 2 if you can or even start from the beginning with 1. I believe both 1 and 2 are on Steam or if you have a 360 then you are set or if you have a PS3 like I do then you can buy Mass Effect 2 and get the gist of Mass Effect 1's story told to you and you pick certain decisions.

Mass Effect 3 is sort of nothing unless you play Mass Effect 1 and 2 beforehand.

It really makes a lot of difference in story and things you can do, starting with 3 will make a lot of choices obsolete, and a lot of references you won't get.

I started with 1 all the way through 3 and it was a ok-ish series, apart from all the WORDS it was alright, I didn't like it, anyhow, I'd suggest getting the trilogy for Xbox or PC, since it's the only platforms the entire story is on.

The(a) reason why Mass Effect 3 is so highly praised is because of the level of interaction you gain with your fellow squadmates over the course of 3 games.
Anyone who took the Mass Effect games seriously and did as much as you can, developed a great relationship such as ((probably) everyones favourite, Garrus).

First meeting Garrus, taking him on missions with you, going into a final conflict. Then in ME2 you meet him in an unexpected area and do his loyalty quest, find out more about him and go on the Suicide Mission. (if he survives)Then in ME3 you meet him again and do more side missions, find out more about him, spend "that final moment with him" and look back at your friendship since 2007 over the 3 games. Then finally storm the end game boss with him.

That's why you need to play those other games. You have so many more characters to have kind of relationship with and because the game feeds from your previous save game data, it truly is your Bro/FemShep with that Garrus/partner. Starting from ME3, you'd lose any sense of giving a crap about characters you've only known for one game.

What BumblebeeCody said is absolutely true. The ME universe, lore, gameplay, and most importantly - the character relationship development is best experienced having played all three games.

The "Final Moments" with Garrus (although he isn't my favorite character) were so captivating and moving.. Everything about it was amazing, and especially so, considering all of the crap you and Garrus have been though, and the relationship you've been building on for (in my case) years. I mean really, this is one of the moments where a video game can bring tears to your eyes.

It pains me to think that the publicity of ME3 has attracted so many new players that haven't played the previous two, and likely won't, probably think the game or the series is sub-par.

It's cool to even think that the decisions I made in 2007 while playing ME1 are reflected in my gameplay of ME3

Ok by the sounds of it you really need to play the first two games since the character relationships and story is the most important part of the game. I guess I simply wont get mass effect 3 right off the bat because I do not plan on beating 1&2 any time soon.

I can't speak for 1 but I completed 2 (with as much as I could (not too sure if i had EVERY DLC) but it took around 35-40 hours to complete but I was not playing it on the hardest difficulty nor was I trophy hunting.

In my opinion if I got the question right then, I would like to say that its not a poor idea to jump on any version of a particular game, but the real fun comes from the starting version just because a continuous flow keeps on going on throughout the game, but every one have their personal choice.
