Who else reads visual novels?
Lately I've been reading the shit out of visual novels 'cause I ran out of stuff to do and found I very much enjoy them, so my question is, does anyone else here read them and if so do you have any recommendations?

RE: Who else reads visual novels?
My damn, the amount of visual novels games I've found on the Japanese Xbox Marketplace is insane. Seriously over 15 games based on the visual novels genre. I new demo went up a few days ago. (Robotics; Note)

I recommend any on DS (or other platform they appear on). Another Code, Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, Hotel Dusk.
Phoenix Wright is probably the best visual novel I've ever played.

On Xbox:
Steins;Gate. Robotics;note I havne't downloaded yet but looks promising

I haven't gotten around to Higurashi no Naku Koro ni/ (When They Cry).

I've actually been waiting for an English translation for Steins;Gate and I've taken a look and Higurashi no Naku ni but it seemed a little stereo typical for my taste (in other words your typical love story visual novel. Also don't get me wrong those are good but if it's too predictable and stereo typical I just get bored I mean hell I freaking loved Clannad and I'm really enjoying Little Busters! [the one I am currently reading] and it appears I've went off on a tangent) I'll have to check out Robotics;Note, it looks like it's from the same people that made Steins;Gate (judging by the title stylization).

Also a recommendation of my own is Fate/stay night. (just a little warning there are 18+ scenes in this one. Also before anyone gets the wrong idea I don't read these for that. Dodgy)

I haven't played Higurashi no Naku ni but I enjoyed the anime. I liked it because it was cutesy girls (ugh) but with murder and (a bit of gore). I personally find Clannad as stereotypical as everything I don't like about these "cutesyschoolgirl' animes. Steins;Gate is good because it's features likable characters who are young adults.

LittleBusters looks OKish, but the characters ... I gight get it on PS3 if I find it cheap (not on Xbox 360 y'see).

Like I said before though, if you want strong decent Visual Novels, those 4 DS games are the best!

Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, Hotel Dusk. Can they be labeled as visual novels? I'd classify them only as adventures. I mean, I'm no expert about visual novels, but those games are closer from, like, Lucasarts' adventures then traditional do-nothing-but-dialogue-trees japanese visual novels, right?

RE: Who else reads visual novels?
Just to give my opinion on Little Busters! before you buy it just so you don't regret buying it if you do since it appears you dislike Clannad, (they are both made by Key which tends to make stereo typical ones) it't very comical and has a comedic feel to it when you first start it and doesn't have that "OMG WE'RE IN LOVE!!!" feel at all until you enter a specific character's route and even then it's subtle for the most part it never seems to smother you in it but if you truly dislike a story like Clannad I don't recommend it, while it mainly focuses around the problems each character has and how you help that character to overcome it, it is ultimately a love story, if you don't want that don't read it.

Now Fate/stay night is not stereo typical at all and is actually what i would call very actiony and only has the romances in the story as more of a side plot that supports the main story.

Any game that is mainly text and all you do is make choices every now and then and has multiple endings can be considered a visual novel.

RE: Who else reads visual novels?

Phoenix Wright is the best Visual Novel out there in my opinion, it's Capcom at it's best, meanwhile Miles Edgeworth Ace Attorney Investigations 2 is Capcom at their worst.

I have read the one in your spoiler in my opinion it wasn't bad but it wasn't that great either. Also it seems everyone keeps suggesting Phoenix Wright so I guess I'll have to give it a shot.

Play the first one, and don't use a walkthrough, seriously just don't, I didn't have to use a walkthrough and I played this when I was about 12.

Case 4 will be your favorite case for life by the way.

RE: Who else reads visual novels?
The only visual novel I read was Katawa Shoujo. It didn't have a bad of a story but I hated the lack of freedom. It felt like I was being tugged along a chain, I couldn't deviate from the path I chose. Once I picked a path, the game put a blindfold on me and only removed it for the part relevant to my love interest.

I think my biggest problem was that I wasn't going into it with the right mind set.

Phoenix Wright and Hotel Dusk and two games I've put very firmly into the visual novel genre. Another Code and Professor Layton I'd consider visual novels but also can be part of puzzle adventure. Even if I'm wrong about the them being visual novel, they're still very good games regardless.

I haven't played Katawa Shoujo. I guess it's good?

Umm...it's about visual novels but that stuff about games that are like visual novels kinda became a side topic, lets put it this way my signature describes this situation.

Right, that makes more sense !

Well I once bought The Hobbit, thinking it was the novel. Turned out to be the graphic novel. Still one of the best graphic novels I've read. Top notch
