Ouberry put it in the best way possible. I do wish Nintendo would do some more with their IPs, but they're just doing the safe thing.
You also have to remember that these are meant for kids. Although one of the DLC being released for NSMB2 looks super difficult and that it would actually take skill. Shame it's only going to be 3 levels, though. I'd love a super difficult Mario game.
