The reason I never really saw a Pokemon MMO happening was because there wouldn't be as many people buying the newer games. Sure they would still get a ton of sales from them but I'm guessing more people would rather play the MMO with 600+ Pokemon in it rather than buying the new, single player focused game with 100 or so new Pokemon in it.

It would be a cool game though. It could even have 3DS connectivity so you could train your Pokemon on the handheld game when you're out, then send them to the MMO world when you're at home.
