Here's works it how:
The first person gives a really depressing or dark part of a phrase, then the next person has to incorporate it into the end of a lighthearted sentence, then give another.
For example:
Person A chooses "then she told me she had cancer"
Person B says "I having a ton of fun hula hooping with my aunt, then she told me she had cancer."
Then Person B chooses a new phrase.
