When has that EVER been the case; where the demo isn't the final product of the game?

If you had played the demo for Metroid Prime 2 Echos that came with the original Metroid Prime the yo would know what I'm talking about the demo showed off a part of the game that was a bigger point in the game
"I know, lets base my demo point by this one experience. Oh ho.
and even when the game finally came out it was completely changed at that part and didn't even resemble the demo at all, there are more examples of game devs doing this but that is the most prominent example I know so I choose to just download the full game when it comes out and see how it is if I'm not sure if i want to buy it or not and if I don't like it I'm just gonna delete it and move on with life.
Wouldn't surprise me if you actually DON'T buy the game and keep the pirated version. Because, playing Demos and reading reviews is laaaaaame, yo.

The entertainment industry doesn't deserve my money, as they constantly put out shit in every medium.
I love this sentence so much because it shows the sheer bollocks logic. They make shit games so I'll pirate it. So, either way you end up with the game anyway. So let me ask you, if it's so shit, why do you want to own it?
I'm not going to pay Michael Bay for making Transformers into a terrible movie, I'm not going to pay George Lucas for ruining Star Wars, nor am I going to pay Activision for putting out the same Call of Duty over and over.

Maybe when the industry steps up as a whole and invests their effort into making a quality product I'll stop pirating.

So what you're saying is, being the Entertainment industry MUST go by YOUR standards. Michael Bay makes crappy films so that gives me the right to take ANYTHING from Hollywood. I'm not going to pay Activision/George Lucas anything again so I'll pirate it, completely ruining the credibility of your argument.

You saying they suck is a point but pirating it just means that you wanted it anyway.

This is not my argument but as a fellow pirate I'll give my 2 cents on it, pirating something does mean you want it but that doesn't mean you think it's worth the money that the creator wants you to pay for it like CoD map packs for example I have not pirated these but I can say that like 3 or 4 maps is not worth the $20
OK, so what makes you not having having to pay for it at all? See, this is you
"£20 no thanks, I don't think it's worth, I don't think it's worth anything so I'll take it for free". <- That's you.

they charge for it, it's just milking the community for their money
You're not making a stand. You're just a dumb as those who made a stand against Mass Effect 3 then end up pirating. What are yuo proving there by still obtaining the game? It's just a weak mind and selfishness. It's not you showing you give a crap about the community. Just greed. It's you who doesn't stick up for the community but gives us this crap we have to deal with like DRM and games not coming to PC (Like Street Fighter 4).
and not putting a fair price on it I would on the other hand happily pay half that price because that actually seems reasonable.
Steam deals much

Edit: Also good job challenging people on their reasons just try to keep it civil because it seems like you were just out right attacking their statements and not debating. (we don't make any progress to understand each other if all we do is yell Wink)
Gee I wonder why? Because you guys think you have argument case for pirating.
Keep up with with your flawed selfish logic.

(07-17-2012 06:57 AM)Symphony Wrote:  Yes, I do pirate. And for me it became so common that I hadn't have an original game since I got myself a copy of Age of Wonders II. I don't have excuses on 'the gaming companies don't deserve my money' or something on those tracks, but I do have my motives:

I own a kinda old laptop (IIRC, it's from 2009) that lacks a decent video-card (if you'd wish to know it's a 'Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family'). That means even though a game might NOT pass on checks, such as the 'Can You Run It' , it just might run in my laptop without ANY problems, given the possibility to tweak with the game settings.
This means that without actually running the game, I simply can't tell if it'll be playable or not.
I may add to that the fact that games here are WAY overpriced (somewhere around x2~3 the prices in US/Europe) and I simply won't make my family have another expense when I clearly have an alternative. I also don't have access to Steam or any other selling platforms.
If you want to know if your PC can run it, why don't you use DXDIAG and check the specs of your machine instead of pirating it and assuming it works. Again, such a lazy thought process.

On the movies subject, it's rather simple: when I'm spending my vacations with my family in my hometown, I can't watch movies on the theaters because we have none. However, when I'm away during the rest of the year I just find myself with cinemas that abuse dubbed movies. And those suck.
Haha wow. First world problems.

(07-17-2012 07:24 AM)Melirune Wrote:  My reasoning is this - There are many games that look good, but actually fall short of any enjoyable experience. I don't have a problem with pirating a copy of a game or movie to see if I actually enjoy it. If I do enjoy it, I have absolutely no problem buying an actual copy. If the product is terrible, I just delete/uninstall it. No money lost from me, and no increased sales figures for something that doesn't deserve it.
OK cool.

To be fair, I haven't pirated any Michael Bay movies, as I won't even waste my bandwidth on his rubbish. The same goes for Activision and Lucas. There are just certain things that I refuse to waste my bandwidth on.

Now, I'm not asking that the industry go by my standards at all. My standards differ from yours, which differ from the next guys and so on. It would be unfair and selfish to demand something just for me. I'm the type of person who prefers elaborate sets and puppetry to CGI and green/blue screen. I prefer actors with talent instead of these young folks who are just there as eye candy. The things I prefer in film just have no place in it anymore.

However, in the case of Transformers - it is just a bad product. Half of the movie feels like it was shot from a hand-cam from 2 feet away. The Autobots look the same as the Decepticons. Megan Fox has the acting talent of a drugged sloth. I could go on.

I don't feel like this product is worthy of paying for at all. I saw it in theaters and felt angry after, so when the next movie came out I made the decision to pirate it. If it was bad, no loss and if it was good I would have no problem buying it. Unfortunately it was again terrible.
OK surely I'm not the only who can see the insane BS logic here.
"The movie sucked so much I hated, so I decided to pirate" <- The hell!?

As for Star Wars - I saw the prequels in theaters. And I was unimpressed by all three. Again, I will not even waste the bandwidth to pirate it. But if someone who hasn't seen them wanted to, I would ask them to pirate it. I wouldn't want to inflate Lucas' ego anymore than people already have. On the other hand though, I have no problem buying the original trilogy because of how well done it was (in my opinion)
...........m head, it hurts!

Now, I don't take just 'anything' from Hollywood. There are still directors that I will dish out the money for without having even seen the product. For example, I will not pirate a Rob Zombie film, I will buy it.

Now, expand this way of thinking to all other forms of media. For me, pirating isn't a way of saying "Oh, this sucks but I want it anyway". It's a way of deeming whether or not something is worth buying.

Am I saying pirating is right? Not at all. But hey, I'm not here to give my money to these companies that don't deserve it.
Again, I know I'm not the only one who's like "....dafuq!?"
"Pirating is wrong, but any company I feel doesn't deserve my money won't. But the entertainment they have provided is enough for me to own and not give them back anything on return."

It's insane who you're trying to justify pirating something that's worth you owning but not paying for? If it's so bad why do you have it!?

And now for another reason that I pirate - sometimes you can't find something that you wish to own, whether it's rare or just not available in your area (I'm talking things that are at least 15+ years old, nothing modern). There are lots of classic movies from the 60's that I like. And I can't always find them in pawn shops or maybe they are too expensive on eBay. Again, I have no problem pirating these. They are old enough that they don't hurt sales or take food out of peoples mouths.
Fair point

And another reason - Metallica. Metallica was very outspoken about how bad pirating/Napster was. But for those of you who don't know - Metallica got their initial success from people pirating/bootlegging their material. If it wasn't for people doing that, Metallica might not have been as big as they were.
Ah OK, so I didn't know that we're comparing a £9 CD to £40 game AND that we're bringing up peoples past as if to justify me doing the same.

Like I said before, enjoy working on a project for 2 years just to have people stealing it. My you guys are spoilt. Going around thanking each other as if you've got so sort of coherent argument going. Such incredibly hilariously bad BS logic. You're never going to admit that you just want free stuff regardless of who it affects.
This thread man....
