It does taste similar but nowhere near the same taste as regular bacon (or at least regular for me I have no idea if Canadian bacon is normal in Canada and regular old bacon is American bacon but maybe I'm just over thinking this.)
Canadian bacon is called "Back Bacon" in Canada, It's essentially the bonless center chop you can buy a meat store but cured, normal bacon is called "Side belly" or "Side pork" if it isn't cured, there just different parts of the pig but cured and called bacon.
In Canada regular bacon is still far more popular then back bacon.
