Back then, gaming was basically on the same level as board games or RC cars or whatever. A fad. An admittedly lucrative fad...but still the property of a single designer churning out dross (as well as mad auteurs churning out INSANITY. . .hence Jet Set Willy). Then the NES came and saved it.
Gaming is now, I think... (back me up, anyone) a bigger market than Hollywood. A market that big will simply not go away. Regardless of the creativity, it's here to stay.
