Punch-Out!! Fun facts(TLDR)
Name Changes

-Soda Popinski, a well known Russian Boxer in the series, was originally known as Vodka Drunkenski, you probably know why it was changed.

-Piston Honda was renamed Piston Hondo is the 2009 Wii title "Punch-Out!!"(Creative, huh?) due to the car company Honda, and the fact that a Piston is part a car. So they didn't want to get sued.

Punch-Outs Origins

(Thanks, Wikipedia)

Punch-out!! was originally an Arcade release that became extremely successful. Unlike Punch-Out!! For the NES, Little Mac was the same size as boxer, but was see-through. This game introduced series staples called Glass Joe, Piston Hurricane, Bald Bull, and Mr. Sandman, along with two forgotten Wrestlers, Pizza Pasta, and Kid Quick.

Later, it got a sequel titled "Super Punch-out!!" Which brought in some new faces which are now series staples such as Bear Hugger, Soda Popinski(Then known as Vodka Drunkenski), Great Tiger, and SUPER. MACHO. MAAAN.

Then there was an arm wrestling spinoff which i don't care about.

Other Interesting facts...

Bear Hugger, a well known Wrestler in the Punch-Out Series, is voiced by Richard Newman in the Wii installment. He also voiced M. Bison in the Street Fighter Cartoon. Guess what that means.

Within Punch-Out!!(2009)'s files, Disco Kid, the only newcomer, has files located in his data titled "kidquick", this implies that Disco Kid was originally going to be Kid Quick. And its not that surprising as the two are both really fast boxers.

According to Nintendo Official Magazine, Glass Joe's only win is meant to be due to an accident with Nick Bruiser, the final boxer of Super Punch-Out!!(SNES release). However, this can be debated, as according to Nick's Win/Loss Ratio, he never lost once.

Apparently, losing 100 times in the WVBA allows you to wear protective Headgear, as shown by Glass Joe in his Title Rematch in Punch-Out!!(2009)

Little Mac is little due to the NES' limitations, as he was impossible to make transparent in the NES port, so they made him small so you can see the boxers.

Also, Little Mac weigh's exactly 107 lb's, Hitmonchans international Pokedex number is 107.

Giga Mac, a version of Mac in the vs. mode for Punch-Out!! Wii, was going to be called Big Mac, but was changed so it didn't infringe on Mcdonalds sandwich.

Doc Louis, Little Macs coach, could be inspired off of the real life African American boxer, Joe Louis, who is known as the first African American Hero.

One of Doc Louis' Quotes in Punch-Out!! Wii where he tells Mac to join Club Nintendo is a refference to one of Doc's original quotes from the first game.

"JOIN THE NINTENDO FUN CLUB TODAY, MAC!"

"Join the Nintendo Fun- i mean, Club Nintendo today, Mac!"
