Also, if you look at the new Mario games, you can see that, apart from the "sports" games, each of them follows the story tradition.
What I mean by that is the fact that even though Nintendo makes a lot of Mario games... they STILL look "fresh". I won't say new, because "New Super Mario Bros. 2" is very similar to the one before, but it still feels new in some way. You get a new challenge that makes the game more difficult, etc.
It's like "Super Mario Galaxy 2", it follows the same pattern as the first one, but it looks fresh, some cool add-on features (If you can't love Mario riding Yoshi over a black hole, then b**ch, you just can't have fun).
So basically, I think that even though they're using Mario for a LOT of their new games... who the frek' cares. People love them anyway, and I do too. If you don't play them because you think Mario is overrated, your lost bro.
