You're both right and wrong. Nintendo is milking their franchises, but only because they've been in the game for over 20 years. They've found what characters they have that people love, so stick with those characters. And they toned down the difficulty of their games since the 80s due to the fact that now they can put more time into the longevity of a game, instead of needing to make it hard to pad out the game's runtime. And since the late 90s, they have started to make their games able for anyone to play and understand easily, not just kids. Because of this, Nintendo's sorta like the Dsiney of video games. They spend most of their time and effort dedicated to providing something everyone, young and old, will be able to do. They don't need HD graphics, or the most innovative and new gameplay mechanics. They simply want to make enjoyable games.
