Who else reads visual novels?

The only visual novel I read was Katawa Shoujo. It didn't have a bad of a story but I hated the lack of freedom. It felt like I was being tugged along a chain, I couldn't deviate from the path I chose. Once I picked a path, the game put a blindfold on me and only removed it for the part relevant to my love interest.

I think my biggest problem was that I wasn't going into it with the right mind set.
