Do you pirate?
For clarification no posting things like links to pirating sites and all that other good stuff as that is against forum rules, I'm just asking if you pirate things and if so to what degree? As for myself due to not having any money all the time if it's available for download off the internet and I want it and it's not much a hassle to get running properly then I probably pirated it.

I pirate up to 40°C, then it's too hot so I return to port.

To a degree. If there's something I want and I know the creators/company won't get any gain from it anymore, I will probably download it. For example, old NES games that you can't find at virtual console.

Yeah I used to download ROMs for old NES games and before I found my old Pokemon game I downloaded a GBC Emulator for a Pokemon Blue ROM.
I also used to download a few old PC games before they were re-released on sites like GOG.com.

RE: Do you pirate?
I've downloaded ROMS that I already own. I have a modded Wii to let me play my ROMs on a GameBoy emulator too. I am against piracy but sometimes when you pirate a NES game there isn't any way for the company to make money of it anyway.
It's pretty obvious that Nintendo are against pirating games, and for good reason, which is why they release NES to GBA games for download on the eShop, because buying them in stores now wouldn't grant them anymore money. It's when people pirate a new game like Gears/Zelda and think its cool. Or the other sad people that pirate games like Minecraft which is insanely cheap.

Or people that pirate Team Fortress 2.......when it's free.

Yeah pirating something like Minecraft or a free game is pretty pointless I'm almost always broke money wise and I still managed to scrounge up the 10 euros to legitimately buy Minecraft (during its's alpha stage), but also at the same time I didn't know if it would be worth my money when I first saw it so I had a pirated version for a couple weeks then decided I loved the game and bought it.

RE: Do you pirate?
I've pirated gameboy roms of games but almost all of them are games I already own (for example for multiple saves for a pokemon game). Otherwise I don't pirate anything, whether it's music or games or tv shows. I want to support the creators of the art medium, rather than bypass them.

RE: Do you pirate?
Yes I pirate. And I have no problem with it either.

The entertainment industry doesn't deserve my money, as they constantly put out shit in every medium. I'm not going to pay Michael Bay for making Transformers into a terrible movie, I'm not going to pay George Lucas for ruining Star Wars, nor am I going to pay Activision for putting out the same Call of Duty over and over.

Maybe when the industry steps up as a whole and invests their effort into making a quality product I'll stop pirating.

RE: Do you pirate?
To be honest, I full out pirate a lot of stuff, including games, movies, ROMS, etc. For games, usually I just do it because for now, I'm stuck on a Mac that can't run anything and a lot of pirated games CAN run on it (Borderlands, Skyrim, etc.), so I don't really think it's hurting the companies very much, because at the least they have one more person playing their game as opposed to nothing. Movie wise, I have to agree with Melirune that the industry has become so bloated that I see little problem with it, and I do go to the theater now and then if I feel like it or if I'm with friends (The Avengers), but if I have to either try and track down a DVD of a movie that I want to see, waste gas to go pick it up or pay shipping charges and wait 2-3 weeks for it to arrive, I see absolutely no problem with pirating it.

As for ROMS, Homebrew channel has emulators for the Gameboy-SNES and Dreamcast.

This is also another reason why I pirate. So many times have I actually bought a game and then was disappointed at how terrible it was and then went to go sell it and only get about half my money back, (also that's possible because I don't sell my games at GameStop the biggest rip off store ever made, I'm gonna go off on a tangent now, they had [I'm not sure if they still do] another branch of stores named Funco Land and when I was young me and my brothers wanted some new games for our SNES so we decided we would sell some of the games we don't really play we then picked out about 11 games went to Funco Land and they offered us a whole 30 cents for all 11 games needles to say we left with our games and never came back till it had been robbed twice and turned into a GameStop) which basically means I spend $30 on an experience that was only worth about $10 so I choose to sample games when I get the chance and if I like it then I will go give the creators my money. (also no I'm not gonna play their demo that is meant to hook you into the games so you buy it meaning it is probably really polished and most of the time is changed into something completely different in the full game)

I love this sentence so much because it shows the sheer bollocks logic. They make shit games so I'll pirate it. So, either way you end up with the game anyway. So let me ask you, if it's so shit, why do you want to own it?

So what you're saying is, being the Entertainment industry MUST go by YOUR standards. Michael Bay makes crappy films so that gives me the right to take ANYTHING from Hollywood. I'm not going to pay Activision/George Lucas anything again so I'll pirate it, completely ruining the credibility of your argument.

You saying they suck is a point but pirating it just means that you wanted it anyway.

When has that EVER been the case; where the demo isn't the final product of the game?

Feel free to have a laughing face on when you read about people in the gaming industry that have been losing their jobs and studios have to be closed down.because at the least they have one more person playing their game as opposed to nothing. Movie wise, I have to agree with Melirune that the industry has become so bloated that I see little problem with it
What!? That's not even a reason!, and I do go to the theater now and then if I feel like it or if I'm with friends (The Avengers), but if I have to either try and track down a DVD of a movie that I want to see, waste gas to go pick it up or pay shipping charges and wait 2-3 weeks for it to arrive, I see absolutely no problem with pirating it.
That's only because you have no patience.

As for ROMS, Homebrew channel has emulators for the Gameboy-SNES and Dreamcast.

Does it not surprise me that developers end up locking content, not giving games to certain regions and put DRMs on games because people pirate their games and use excuses.

Quote:Meh meh meh I don't wanna wait for shipping charges so I'll pirate it.

The only reason you don't mind pirating games is because you "THINK" it doesn't hurt anyone and that you haven't been caught. So you'll keep doing it.

Must be great to you 3 were your job can't be downloaded through the Internet right.
Fuck me

RE: Do you pirate?
I have personal rules with pirating.
1. If it is more than 7 years old, you're good.
2. If a company can't make money off the game anyway, you're good.
3. If the price is less than 25 dollars, do NOT pirate. That's not a lot of money.
4. If you just want to try the game for a bit, go ahead but if you like it, buy it.
5. If you know the game is something with little replay value (regardless of it's age), OK to pirate.
6. If you only want to play a small aspect of the game, like the campaign of CoD only, you're good.

Those are basically my rules of pirating that I use. I may alter them sometimes, I have done so before, but this is basically what I think of pirating.

If you had played the demo for Metroid Prime 2 Echos that came with the original Metroid Prime the yo would know what I'm talking about the demo showed off a part of the game that was a bigger point in the game and even when the game finally came out it was completely changed at that part and didn't even resemble the demo at all, there are more examples of game devs doing this but that is the most prominent example I know so I choose to just download the full game when it comes out and see how it is if I'm not sure if i want to buy it or not and if I don't like it I'm just gonna delete it and move on with life.

This is not my argument but as a fellow pirate I'll give my 2 cents on it, pirating something does mean you want it but that doesn't mean you think it's worth the money that the creator wants you to pay for it like CoD map packs for example I have not pirated these but I can say that like 3 or 4 maps is not worth the $20 they charge for it, it's just milking the community for their money and not putting a fair price on it I would on the other hand happily pay half that price because that actually seems reasonable.

Edit: Also good job challenging people on their reasons just try to keep it civil because it seems like you were just out right attacking their statements and not debating. (we don't make any progress to understand each other if all we do is yell Wink)
