The SNES is one of my favorite consoles. The fondest memories I have of it are playing these games (Not gonna get into the reasons why):

Earthbound
Aladdin
The Lion King
Goof Troop
Super Mario All Stars
Super Mario World
Kirby Super Star
Aero the Acro-Bat
Cool Spot
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country 3 (Note, I did play 2, but it didn't have as significant an impact as 1 and 3)
Mario Paint

Any football ('soccer' for you yanks) game on the SNES was deliciously impossible to beat.
2-player was even better. Slide tackles... slide tackles everywhere Big Grin

I never actually got into the original Syndicate. Is it worth getting a copy? Does anyone think it'd hold up well?

Yes, the three best games I could think of came out for this console.

Earthbound: Great RPG, fun to just look at how japan veiws american culture. Great story.

Legend of zelda: A link to the past: First game with master sword, what else needs to be said?

Super metroid: the prequal to zero mission. (nintendo timelines are confusing)
