Those aren't the only sources. Its actually a well known fact that Prince Fluff was meant to be the protagonist. Here's a link to the Wikipedia article
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirby%27s_Epic_Yarn#Development
If you can't read it, it clearly states that Madoko Yamauchi of Good-Feel(Who previously released Nintendo titles such as Wario Land: Shake It) wished to create a "world of yarn" and started out with the name Keito no Fluff(Fluff of Yarn) and have Prince Fluff be the main character, however Nintendo recommended that they use Kirby as the main character instead and add elements and characters to the finished product so they can localize such an interesting concept, as well as make it more appealing to a wider audience. However due to the nature of the gameplay, copy abilities were switched to morphing. Admit it, you would never have bought this game if Kirby wasn't in it and this is just perfect for a DYKG.

Quote:IWATA-I see. By the way, Kirby’s Epic Yarn wasn’t originally intended to be a Kirby game. You really did start from scratch and for a while were making a completely new title called Fluff’s Epic Yarn. Fluff, the main character at that time, shows up in Kirby’s Epic Yarn, too. A “world of yarn” has been the setting for this game from the very start. How did you come up with the idea of a world of yarn?

Here is a more solid proof

Makes sense, Kirby's own game wasn't supposed to star Kirby!
