Link to the Past fastest speedrun. - retrolinkx - 08-02-2012 05:01 PM

Due to a glitch, a Link to the Past, can be completed in a mere 3 minutes.

I believe that this is the fastest time for a speed run to date, but I'm not entirely sure myself.

Is it a TAS?

I just spent half that video trying to get the cursor off the screen

Good find, though

I believe it is a TAS, but the owner said that it can be done by a human using a turbo controller.

TAS don't usually count(Turbo controllers included). They just display what's possible if everything is perfect with no hiccups but aren't registered as true speedruns. Still enjoyable to watch.

Turbo Controllers can be legit, imo. Especially for NES games.

Speedrunslive don't consider turbo controllers legit. It's tool assisted then. Cheating, same thing. It comes down to you having to learn how to tap fast.

Turbo controllers IMO are cheating because you are pressing a button to do a task that you are capable of doing at a slower time.

I don't think that manipulating luck, making the game go in slow-motion and so on is the same as having a controller that helps you click faster.

That's the point, anything that aids is against the rules of speedrunning. Turbo controllers are against the rules because they do the work of "button mashing" for you. Can't be considered legal if other speed runners can't do the same.

Pokemon Yellow can be glitched with garbage save data and completed in about two minutes. No TAS, there is an approved submission of a manual speedrun on speeddemosarchive.org.

There's also the other way where you can go through walls due to a glitch and complete the game in under 10 mintues. That can be done by anyone (I did it myself)
