RP Discussion - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 08-02-2012 07:01 AM So that we don’t get confused over on the RP thread, here’s a thread in which you can discuss what’s going on in the story. In the RP thread, we’ll be discussing actions, decisions and the behind the scenes of the story. Here, anyone can comment on what’s going on, what they’d like to see (I want to write this story with as much input from you all as possible), why there’s a 9 year-old with a beard, etc. Here’s the first part of the story, enjoy ! STORY Spoiler (Click to View) - CHAPTER ONE- New Harvest Era, Year 298. Somewhere in the state of New Aragon. 298 years. 298 years, we have been fighting to survive. And for what? For the remnants of our past civilisations. I have never seen the attraction of trying to hold on to a culture that decided to destroy itself nearly three centuries ago. To be honest, I know nothing about what life was like before the New Harvest. Our self-proclaimed government encourage silence over our past and are not afraid to make the loudest amongst us disappear. All I know is that in the beginning of this era, the people wanted to forget about the events that brought about the end of the old world. That desire to wipe their memories became fear. That fear then turned to hate. Those born in the next generation grew up with that hate and made it grow. Now, several generations later, we are taught about how our species used to be monsters, and how the cataclysm of 300 years ago came to be, in order to cleanse us. The people in power have been indoctrinated by this all their lives and now pass the hatred onto the young. A vicious cycle. I was born 57 years ago and have been stuck in this town, if you could call it that, for that entire time. We know that there is a government to the North of us that sends information and news. We know that we are told that the war against the Navarrans to the West is going well. I don’t see what we are fighting over. The land is barren and has been for as long as anyone can remember. The few patches of fertile ground are heavily protected and are barely enough to feed the mouths of New Aragon. So many people have died, are dying, and will no doubt die, because of our situation – an “everlasting hell” I would call it. Famine, drought, disease. It’s as if the world we live in was designed to try and kill us. Sometimes, we hear rumours of green lands up to the North, but those who say such things are the ones who tend to disappear… A sudden noise brings me out of my half-dream. A man has entered my bar and is looking towards the notice board. His, long, dark-brown hair does nothing to cover his startling blue eyes. He walks towards the board, pulling an occupied chair with him. The fallen man who was on the chair staggers upright and yells at the newcomer but stops as the blue eyes pierce him with a gaze. The sharpness of the eyes takes me aback – It’s rare to see someone with eyes that betray such a fighting spirit nowadays. However, I also detect a glint of another emotion. Sorrow? Guilt? It’s probably not my place to ask so I go back to my bartending. Just surviving another week would be nice… *** Zaliphone was annoyed. For one, he had not noticed that the chair he had taken was occupied. He did not want to pick a fight, especially as he was not from around here, and was glad when the man backed away. Also, he was annoyed at a piece of paper on the notice board. On it was written ‘Adventure & Gold. Sign up below.’ with a number of lines underneath. “No names…” he muttered to himself. “Should’ve known that a place like this would be filled with cowards.” He ripped the paper off the wall and went to sit at an unoccupied table. “What now?” he thought. “I can’t go alone and the airship leaves at dusk.” Just at that moment, the door of the bar slammed open and a tornado came in. At least, it seemed like a tornado. A man had fallen loudly through the door. The first things Zaliphone noticed were the tattoos. He was covered in them. His shirt, which only had one sleeve, showed a long red tribal design that ran all the way to the shoulder and behind the shirt. His left eye also sported a similar design, the red jarring with the dark blue of his eyes. The man gave a large grin and bellowed. “People ! I heard there was gold to be found ! Where’s the monneh !?” Zaliphone was surprised that such a lanky-framed man could make such a ruckus with just his voice. He quickly got up and pulled this newcomer into a chair next to him. Even his sitting down made a terrible clamour. Zaliphone made a mental note of not allowing him to do anything remotely stealthy. “You would do better not to draw attention to yourself,” he hissed, into the man’s ear. “If people hear you shouting about gold, your words could trickle up to undesirable ears.” “Says the person with the sign saying ‘Adventure & Gold’,” scoffed the other. “The name’s Alex Starfade. And I wouldn’t worry about my drawing attention,” he added, looking towards the entrance. Indeed, a bearded dwarf had just appeared. Or at least, it seemed like a dwarf. There was something wrong about the way he walked. He had an eye patch and wore a trench coat. To Zaliphone’s dismay, the dwarf seemed to decide that he wanted to come see him. “So you’re the idiot who decided to put the sign so damn high up that I couldn’t write on it?” Zaliphone nearly fell off his chair. The voice of this dwarf was that of a nine year-old girl! “What on earth…” muttered Alex Starfade. “Once you two have quite stopped gawking at me,” said the bearded dwarf, “you can add my name to that list and we can get going.” “But… you… girl…” stuttered Zaliphone. “Yes, I’m a girl. Yes, I have a beard and an eye patch. I even have a tattoo of a clown on my arm, wanna see?” “That’s… quite alright, thanks,” replied Zaliphone. This situation was absurd, he had to be dreaming. “What’s your name so I can add it to the list?” “I’m Mary Cow, but you can call me ‘Moo’, everyone does.” “Mary… Cow…,” said Zaliphone, noting down the name. “Now I’ve put up this sign because…” “Excuse me,” came a booming voice from behind Moo. One of the men who had been drinking at the bar had come over. “I couldn’t help but overhear something about an adventure and gold.” “I don’t…” started Alex Starfade. “You do!” said the man, who was unnaturally tall and whose face was obscured by a mask. He sat down next to Alex Starfade and scrawled his name on the paper. His handwriting was surprisingly neat, this man had obviously received an education. Zaliphone coughed loudly to bring attention back to himself. “Right, you three may be interested but there’s not much time to talk or to wonder at beards, masks and noise levels.” Mary Cow, stroked her lush beard. “So where are we going?” “We have an airship out of here, going to the capital. We leave at dusk.” “You trust us as simple as that?” asked the man in the mask. “You don’t even know my name!” “I don’t really care at the moment,” said Zaliphone, already weary of the three people around him. “Well if you insist on asking, it’s Arjahn Mjakhim.” “Great, now that we’re all introduced, let’s get out of here and over to the airstrip. I’ll explain more on the way.” They scrambled towards the door and made their way out into the open. “Hey, you!” came a voice from a side alley. A man came out from the shadows. Zaliphone immediately recognised him as the man whose chair he had taken. With a weary sigh he asked “What?” “You disrespected me. I think you need to learn your place,” and with that, the man pulled out a knife and charged… Spoiler (Click to View) Zaliphone (long, curly brown hair, blue eyes), Arjahn Mjakhim (tall man with a mask), Mary 'Moo' Cow (a nine-year old with a beard and an eye patch), and Alex Starfade (a noisy and tatooed man with dark blue eyes and a lanky build) are in the state of New Aragon, 300 hundred years after a cataclysmic event that has lead to a post-apocalyptic world. Zaliphone is taking the three others to an airstrip to travel North for "Gold & Adventure) when they are attacked by a man with a knife. RE: RP Discussion - Nicknclank - 08-02-2012 10:35 AM ... I read that in an aussie accent Anyway, here's Chapter 1 - Part 2 ! STORY Spoiler (Click to View) Zaliphone tensed, a pang of annoyance flaring within him. He did not have time for this and any unwanted attention could never be good. There was no choice; the man was closing in rapidly. He decided to take action and slapped him across the face in an attempt to disarm the knife that was in his hand. The man reeled backwards, stumbling on a rock. Picking himself up, he bellowed a cry of rage and ran once again towards the group. This time, Mary Cow ran to meet him, aiming a kick towards the knife-wielding hand. Unfortunately, Mary Cow only measured 1 metre 35 and her kick connected with the assailant’s knee. The man howled in pain as his leg buckled under the force of the blow. Alex Starfade quickly leapt in and wrenched the knife from the man’s grip. Suddenly, Mary Cow unsheathed a hench sword that she kept hidden in her well-conditioned beard. “You call that a knife?” she growled, menacingly. The man looked up and laughed. “Run back home, little girl, this is no place for you,” and he launched himself once more, snatching the knife back from Alex Starfade. “There is no reasoning with this man,” came the calm voice of Arjahn Mjakhim. “He is inebriated and will not settle with logical reasoning.” A light seemed to flicker from the light-blue goggles set in his mask. He grabbed Mary Cow by the beard and threw her out of harm’s way before drawing one of his strange, metallic looking revolvers from his belt. “You’ll want to put that knife down and walk away,” he hissed, the sight of his gun firmly fixed towards the man’s forehead. “You cannot even begin to fathom the sort of pain I can cause you, even whilst your testicles are slowly being drained of all fluids and cartilage before your very eyes.” “There’s no cartilage in one’s testicles,” pointed out Alex Starfade. “Shut up,” retorted Arjahn Mjakhim, the lights behind his near-opaque goggles flaring once more. The man took no heed of this warning and was nearly upon Arjahn Mjakhim. Mary Cow shot back into the fight, head-butting the man in the knee that she hadn’t already injured. With both knees out of action, the man fell to the ground and moved no more. “We should get out of here,” said Zaliphone, looking around. “That amount of noise could attract the authorities.” “I think that you are entirely right, also it is not good that we seem to have killed a man,” bellowed Alex Starfade, in his usual, loud self. The door of the bar slammed open and the four companions spun around, tensing for another attack. “I saw everything!” it was the bartender. “I saw what you did to that man.” Arjahn Mjakhim reached for his gun. “More importantly,” continued the old man, “I saw what that man wanted to do to you. I recommend you get out of here as quickly as possible. I’ll make sure his injuries are tended to. He’s nearly always drunk so he won’t remember any of this. Go!” “We thank you,” said Arjahn Mjakhim, bowing his head and relieved that he would not be forced to shoot this drunkard. *** An hour later, the four had reached the airstrip and were boarding an airship. “Are you sure we don’t need tickets?” asked Mary Cow. “For the tenth time, no!” replied Zaliphone. “I know the captain; he’s an old friend.” “And that’s why we’re climbing in through a window?” she replied. Zaliphone ignored her and looked around. He had seen a layout of the ship and vaguely knew which direction to take. “We’re first going to find my friend on the observation deck, then you are all free to do what you want, the trip will take more than a day.” “Screw that,” said Alex Starfade as the ship began to vibrate heavily. “This ship’s about to take off and I don’t want to be near a window. Terrible airsickness…” “And I’m not staying around just to meet some friend of yours,” added Mary Cow. “This is your idea, so you just let us know when you have more of a notion of what we’re doing and when.” With that, both Alex Starfade and Mary Cow walked off towards the centre of the ship. Zaliphone sighed. This was going to be harder than he expected. He turned to look out of a window and saw the setting sun. “Another day survived,” he thought dryly to himself. The airship took off, and Zaliphone watched the ground fall further and further away. He noticed that Arjahn Mjakhim was still there, also looking out of a window, in total silence. “Anything on your mind?” he asked the tall, masked man. Arjahn Mjakhim said nothing, and continued to stare out of the window. Deciding not to bother him in case he was quick to anger, Zaliphone went off to find the man he had planned to meet. Arjahn Mjakhim stood there on his own for quite some time, not moving or saying a word. Then, to himself, he muttered, “Just one thing, Zaliphone. You said we were going towards the capital. This ship is heading east. What are you hiding…” TL;DR Spoiler (Click to View) Zaliphone decides to disarm the man by slapping him in the face. RE: RP Discussion - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 08-05-2012 01:39 AM Here's Chapter 1 - Part 3 ! STORY Spoiler (Click to View) Alex Starfade was feeling queezy. However much he tried to make himself believe he was on the ground, the titillations of the aircraft made his stomach churn. “I need a drink,” he thought out loud. “And a bite to eat… didn’t get a chance to eat before our fight down below.” “I hope you’re not talking to me,” came a high-pitched voice from his hip. He looked down and saw the bearded Mary Cow. “Oh,” he said, “I hadn’t noticed you, Mary.” “Call me Moo, everybody does. Anyway, I’m off to the small hangar, there’s probably some good stuff to find.” “You do that,” replied Alex Starfade, too concentrated on not being sick to pay attention. Reaching the central hub, he looked around for somewhere to whet his appetite. His eye was attracted to a small entrance which was filled with scantily-clad women throwing beguiling stares at him. Their allure was more than tempting but his stomach overcame his desires. “Something strong,” he called, as he made his way into the bar. “And something crispy.” The barman passed him a vial of red liquid. Alex knew better than to ask what was inside and drank it straight. A sickening taste of bile filled his throat and he gagged. He turned to the barman, ready to give him a piece of his mind but was surprised to see him smile. “Just give it a second,” the blond man said. Alex gave him a dubious look but suddenly felt alleviated. His airsickness had vanished and he felt more comfortable than he had in a long while. The barman chuckled, “I know the look of a man who’s not fond of flying and what he needs. Now you won’t feel bad when your food doesn’t come back up after a few minutes.” “Thanks… I guess,” said Alex Starfade, surprised by this man’s quick thinking. Before he could say another word, Arjahn Mjakhim appeared on the stool next to him. Before Alex could again say another word, Mjakhim turned his masked face towards him and muttered, “Something is wrong. Don’t say anything to anyone else, from what I’ve seen, you’re the only one I can trust. Zaliphone has lied to us; we’re not going to the capital, we’re headed East. I planted a miniature recorder on him before he could leave to meet his so-called friend but,” he stuttered. “Why yes Alex, I also wonder if they serve taco’s here.” “Wha…” started Alex Starfade. Zaliphone had also entered the bar and sat down on his other side. Alex Starfade wanted to ask what this was all about but Arjahn Mjakhim’s tone had frightened him. How could something like this happen so soon? “Don’t mind me,” said Zaliphone cheerily, “just getting a quick drink before heading out to see my friend. He’ll give us more information on what’s going on.” Arjahn Mjakhim nodded silently and turned to his drink. Zaliphone took his bottle and walked back out of the bar. Alex Starfade turned to Arjahn, questions burning to be asked but the latter waved a hand and simply said “Not now. we will know more when I can listen to what that recorder picks up. For now, let’s just play along. Now where is that Mary Cow? She might be in on this.” In fact, Mary Cow was currently in the small hangar, standing still. “Unfortunately, I have no idea what I’m supposed to do in here. All I know is that I wanted to come into this room.” She stroked her beard ponderously and waited for a new idea to come to her. Zaliphone had arrived at the meeting place. His contact wasn’t there and this worried him. It wasn’t like Georg to miss a meeting. Suddenly, he heard a noise behind him. George walked into the room and shut the door behind him. Pulling a gun he shouted for Zaliphone to sit down. “What’s…” started Zaliphone. “NO!” shouted Georg, “You lied to me! You said you’d be alone! There are three others with you. Now I’ve already received offers of a lot of money in exchange for your head, and after what you’ve just done, I’m seriously tempted.” TL;DR Spoiler (Click to View) Alex Starfade goes to the bar. Arjahn Mjakhim catches up with him and tells him of Zaliphone’s lies and that he’s put a tracker on him. Mary Cow goes to the hangar but then has no idea what to do. Zaliphone goes to the meeting place but is beset by his contact, Georg, who says he was not supposed to bring people with him. He wonders if he should just kill Zaliphone, as was requested by a person or people unknown RE: RP Discussion - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 08-07-2012 03:52 AM Aaaand here's Chapter 1 - Part 4, things are getting dangerous STORY Spoiler (Click to View) Back in the airship’s bar, Arjahn Mjakhim and Alex Starfade were debating what to do next. “I say we stop him as soon as we can and force him to explain what he knows”, shouted Alex, in his usual noisy self. “I have a recorder on him, he won’t be doing anything without us knowing,” replied Mjakhim, showing Alex his end of the recorder. “Well I’m not sitting around waiting for something to happen. I’m going to find him. Also, we need to find Moo. She left for the small hangar not long ago, and she's undoubtedly causing trouble with that beard of hers.” And with that, he sped out of the bar, in the direction of the hangar. Arjahn Mjakhim turned to the barman and said “I think you better hold that crispy food, my friend.” *** At the meeting place, Zaliphone’s mind was whirring, trying to work out the situation. Here he was, at gunpoint. No-one knew where he was and no-one was coming to find him. “Now just listen here,” he blurted out, for want of an escape plan. “We never agreed on who would be here.” “That sort of thing should be discussed before anything begins,” retorted Georg, loading his firearm with an ominous click. “Something came up,” stalled Zaliphone, deciding on a course of action. “So if you’ll excuse me I’ll just go now.” “You’re not going anywhere,” said Georg, and he pulled the trigger. A shot exploded out of the gun, just as Zaliphone threw his alcohol-filled bottle towards Georg. The impact of the bullet shattered the bottle, making shards of glass fly in every direction. Zaliphone heard the bullet whip past his ear and lodge itself in a pipe behind him. Steam engulfed the pair as the pipe ruptured. In the bar, Arjahn Mjakhim jumped at the sound of the explosion he could hear in his recorder and ran out into the central hub. He had heard the hissing of steam and such a thing was only held in the engine room, next to the control room. How did they get in there without being noticed ? In the small hangar, Mary Cow was stroking her beard. Then she stroked her beard before stroking it once more. Alex Starfade came into the hangar just as the muffled sound of an explosion reached their ears. Mary Cow stopped stroking her beard and looked startled. “What was that?” she asked, turning to Alex. “No idea, Moo,” we better go check it out. “Also, your beard is lush, have I ever told you that?” “Oh you,” she replied, wondering why a comment like that would arise at such a time. They ran back out of the hangar and towards the sound. At an junction in the main corridors, they ran into the masked Arjahn Mjakhim. “Zaliphone’s in trouble,” said the tall man. “I think he’s been shot.” “How did that ever happen?” asked Mary Cow. “Long story,” replied Alex Starfade. “Let’s find Zaliphone first, then we’ll explain.” The airship began to vibrate, softly at first, but then faster and faster. They ran off towards the control room. *** Zaliphone was dazed. The sound and light of the explosion had thrown him off balance. He had lost all bearing and was stumbling around half-blind. He came across a form on the ground and recognised Georg. The man did not stir, and as Zaliphone began to see more clearly, he saw that a bottle-shard had pierced his treacherous contact’s eye and gone straight through into the brain. The sight made his stomach turn, but there was no time to be sick. The pipe that had been shot was no doubt of some importance as the airship began to shake severely, tanking to both sides. The door of the engine room opened and Mary Cow fell in, followed by Arjahn Mjakhim, who had apparently kicked her in, and Alex Starfade. Behind them, Zaliphone saw the bodies of several crew members. “What…” he started. “The depressurising of that pipe behind you must have set off a chain reaction,” said Arjahn Mjakhim, “There seems to have been a discharge of electricity, killing everyone in there.” A sudden judder made them all lose balance. They fell onto the ground and the door slammed shut behind them. Mary Cow went to open the door and shook the doorknob. “It won’t open,” she called. “You’re probably too small to turn it correctly,” replied Zaliphone, and he went over to try for himself. The door wouldn’t budge. “There must be something blocking the door from the other side.” Arjahn Mjakhim knelt beside the body of Georg, and extracted the shard of glass. “It would appear that your little meeting didn’t go very well,” he said smoothly. “You have some answers to give.” “I think there’ll be time for that after we get out of here,” shouted Mary Cow, as another series of explosions could be heard. Suddenly, the airship banked and the four were thrown into the front-side wall. “The airship's in a nosedive,” shouted Alex Starfade, his voice somehow louder than all the noise around them. Sparks flew from machinery and alarms began to screech. The airship was shaking more than ever now and the four were thrown around the room as the ship spiralled. “We’re going down!” TL;DR Spoiler (Click to View) Mary Cow, Alex Starfade and Arjahn Mjakhim go off to find Zaliphone who has just been shot at by his contact. The shot has ruptured a steam pipe and the ship is starting to shake. They find Zaliphone in the engine room. The ship's crew are dead as a result of the explosion. The four (Georg died in the explosion) are stuck by something blocking the door. The ship is now going down and has fallen into a nosedive. RE: RP Discussion - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 08-11-2012 05:58 AM Found some time to make a small chapter STORY Spoiler (Click to View) The ship was out of control. The spinning was lurching the four around the locked room. “We’ve got to find a way out,” shouted Mary Cow. She unsheathed her hench sword and started beating the walls with it. A shudder jerked the weapon out of her hand and the spinning metal joined itself to the ruckus. Alex Starfade dodged the blade, which missed him by mere centimetres and planted itself into the already broken pipe. He grabbed onto the sword and steadied himself. Repairing the pipe could stop the flow of steam and save them all. Arjahn Mjakhim had had the same idea and looked around for something to block the hole. A sudden thought hit him – He could use the corpse that was flying around and place a limb into the breach to stop the outpour. He reached for the corpse and pulled it towards the pipe. Pulling a hand towards him, he stuffed it into the hole. The steam stopped flowing. The juddering slowed down and the ship stopped spinning. Alex gave a cry of triumph at Arjahn’s success and turned to give the good news to the others who had stopped flying around the room. A hand came out of nowhere and slapped him across the face, followed by a burning sensation. The pressure had been too much for the corpse’s hand and it had come shooting back out. “This is getting out of hand,” said Arjahn Mjakhim. He removed some explosives from his belt and placed them on the door. “Are you mad ?” cried Zaliphone. “The blow from that will kill us for sure !” “Don’t be so sure,” replied Arjahn, “even without a mask, I could survive this explosion.” And he pressed a button on his belt. A soft explosion was heard and smoke filled the room. Coughing, Alex Starfade went towards the door. He banged on the door which didn’t budge. “Well that worked really well,” said Mary Cow. She unjammed her sword from the pipe, just as the ship began to spin and judder once again, the sound of creaking and snapping metal all around them. With it, she started cutting at the walls again. “That’s useless,” said Zaliphone, flying past her head and hitting the right-hand wall. Even as he said those words, a rip appeared in the wall. The hench sword had struck true. A small hole appeared. “No-one could possibly get out of there,” snorted Alex Starfade, “and anyway, you get out and you fall to your death.” “Think again,” answered Mary Cow. She dived out of the window and stroked her lush beard thrice and thrice again. A sudden electricity coursed through the hairs and they started spinning. Faster and faster they went until they turned into a whirring blur. “So long, losers !” she cried, as the helibeard rocketed her away from the ship. Flying to a safe distance, she observed the scene before her. The massive ship was smoking and was, as felt, in a spinning nosedive. The ground was getting closer and closer and small forms could be seen jumping from the ship. “At that height,” she mused, “they would not survive”. As that thought went through her mind, it collided with solid ground. The ships sheer size made it seem so slow. The front collapsed into itself, the aircraft’s weight driving it into the ground. An explosion ripped through the ship’s canvas and engulfed the craft in a ball of flames… TL;DR Spoiler (Click to View) Everyone's trying to get out of the room. Zaliphone opened his eyes. And closed them. The fire raging around him was too strong. He rolled onto his front and pushed himself to his hands and knees. He felt as though his body was broken, but somehow he could still move. He crawled forward, towards where the air seemed to be cooler, but was stopped in his tracks by a form. He felt around with his hands and felt something hard attached to something more palpable. “If you touch my mask one more time, I will be forced to end you,” came a voice from behind the hard object. “Ar- arjahn ?” “The one and only, now get me out of this mess before we both burn,” replied the tall man. Another explosion rocked the area and Zaliphone was blown forwards onto Arjahn Mjakhim. The supine man let out a groan and pushed him away. Screams could be heard coming from far off to the right as a huge piece of metal snapped under the heat of the inferno. Zaliphone brought himself back onto his hands and knees and felt his way down Arjahn, looking for what could be trapping him. He tried to open his eyes several times but was instantly blinded by a wave of the blaze. His hand touched metal. Carefully, he lifted the mass off of Mjakhim’s legs and threw it aside. The man groaned again and tried to bend his knees. Pain coursed up his right leg, like knives jabbing deep into his bones. “You’re going to have to help me,” said Mjakhim, over the noise of the fire. Zaliphone, now on his feet, helped Mjakhim upright, and together, they started limping towards the cooler air. Zaliphone’s eyes were getting accustomed to the heat and he opened them up a crack. To his left, he saw the unconscious form of Alex Starfade and parts of the now shredded corpse of Georg. “Forget him,” said Arjahn. “We can’t save everyone.” A blue light was now emanating from his mask, coupled with several strange sounds. Zaliphone knew he was right, and it was with a heavy heart that they started limping away, leaving Alex Starfade to perish in the flames. From nowhere, a whirring sound came from above them. They looked up to see a small form darting towards them from the heavens. “Is it a bird?” asked Arjahn Mjakhim. “Is it a plane?” echoed Zaliphone. “IT’S ME, BITCHES” came the voice of Mary Cow. She had swooped in using her well-preened helibeard and latched herself onto Alex Starfade. The Moo then flew back off again, the limp form of Starfade hanging under her. “Well I guess that’s that,” chuckled Zaliphone. “Now let’s get out of here for real.” They stumbled on, through the carnage around them. All the crying voices had now gone quiet and the only sound to be heard was the crackling of the flames. The only survivors were apparently those that had been in the bomb-proof engine room. They picked their way through corpses, Mjakhim’s legs all but useless. “Over here!” came the voice of Mary Cow, and they spotted her with Alex Starfade, a short way away, far from the flames. They went on to meet her. Upon arrival, Mjakhim slumped to the ground and observed his leg. Zaliphone went over to Starfade’s lifeless body. “Dead?” he asked. “Not yet,” replied Mary Moo. But we need to patch him up soon or he’ll be joining the dead back in the wreckage. At that moment, a soft, maniacal laugh came from behind them. The three looked around and spotted the barman, engulfed in flames, his skin already starting to peel back. He stumbled forwards, towards them, a platter of charred food in his hands. “You made the ship crash,” he laughed, the sound chilling Zaliphone. “And I had made some crispy, crispy food for you.” He then threw the platter at Alex Starfade’s body and ran, half screaming in pain, half laughing in madness, the flames consuming him, fueling his newfound insanity… TL;DR Spoiler (Click to View) Everyone's out safely from the wreckage, though Arjahn's right leg is injured and Alex Starfade is dying. They think they're safe but the barman, turned insane by the pain of being engulfed in flames, attacks them. RE: RP Discussion - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 08-22-2012 06:32 PM Here's the next chapter. Glad I had some time to write this STORY Spoiler (Click to View) The burning man lurched forward, closing in on the group. Zaliphone quickly picked up a stone and rocketed it towards the man in an attempt to stop him. The stone collided with the burning man’s groin, bringing him to within an inch of his life. He let out a howl, the inferno consuming him taking on a new surge of intensity. “WHERE ARE THE FUCKING TACOS?!” Arjahn Mjakhim had leapt in, ignoring the pain in his leg. Emulating Zaliphone’s tactic, he picked up a decently sized rock and threw it towards the man who was now all but obscured by the fire. The rock was expertly thrown, but didn’t anticipate the erratic lurching of the burning man. The rock therefore merely glanced off the man’s right knee. Nonetheless, a crunching sound let the group know that he had been hit enough to slow him down. *** The crosshairs were scanning the wreckage, going over bodies, twisted metal beam and fires. A movement to the left caught the attention of the crosshairs and they moved sideways to get a better look. The shadowy figure that was controlling the crosshairs was lying amidst a tuft of grass at the top of a dune, some way away. It turned a dial on its hunting rifle, clicking the image back into focus. A ball of flames was running towards a group of three people. No. Four people. One of them was lying on the ground. Dead? One less to worry about… Two of the group had started hurling rocks at the ball of flames. A strange tactic, which somehow seemed to work. Strange. There must be something sentient in that inferno. As that thought crossed the shadow’s mind, a small bearded figure ran in, fists raised. How strange… Attacking a ball of fire with fists... It clicked a few more dials to zoom in on the scene. The shadow saw the small figure run in towards the fire. The bearded fellow threw a punch, but was beaten back by the sheer heat of the flames. These people must be suicidal… Being in this land with no real weapons… Time to end this. *** “What was that supposed to be!?” shouted Zaliphone. “You don’t go hand-to-hand with a big-ass ball of flames!” Mary Cow was too busy putting out the flames that had singed her beard to listen. “What are we going to do with him?” said Mjakhim, as the burning man continued stumbling towards them, its right leg dragging uselessly behind. Before a plan could be made, something whistled past his ear, causing the burning man to be propelled back, his head snapping clean off. The group looked around, searchingfor the source of the attack. “Good thing whoever made that shot can’t aim,” said Mary Cow. “We can’t do much against snipers out here in the open.” “Oh trust me,” came a voice from somewhere around them. A smoky shadow rose from the ground, a hunting rifle emerging from the darkness. “If I were to have aimed for you, you would all be dead. Maseo Katana never misses…” TL;DR Spoiler (Click to View) Zaliphone and Arjahn Mjakhim throw rocks in an attempt to stop the burning man. Mary Cow goes in with her fists but is repelled by the flames. A bullet flies past them and decapitates the burning man. The group wonder who it is - a question switfly answered as a shadowy figure emerges from the ground. RE: RP Discussion - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 08-27-2012 07:39 PM Oh snap, another chapter for you to enjoy STORY Spoiler (Click to View) The group stared at the newcomer, unsure of what to do next. The man calling himself Haseo Katana still had his rifle trained on them, his finger a hairbreadth away from setting in motion the next shot in his barrel. “Now see here,” started Arjahn Mjakhim. “We have no idea where we are, why we’re here, and who you are, so do you really think we’re a threat?” “OF COURSE WE ARE,” screeched Mary Cow. She raised her fists, the hair on them still burning from the previous encounter, and charged. The others did not move, but rather watched with mild bewilderment as the bearded imp threw forward her left fist. Haseo Katana swung his rifle, bringing the butt round to counter the blow. The fist was easily deflected and Katana went in for a counter using his right knee. He didn’t see the blaze of Mary Cow’s right fist, careering towards his jaw. Springing backwards, Haseo Katana lashed out again with his rifle, knocking Mary Cow backwards. She rolled, saved from injury only by her beard. “Really? Is this how you treat me? You're my guest, act like one,” said Katana. Arjahn Mjakhim pulled Moo back, sitting on her to stop any further struggle. “Where the schlompert are we?” queried Mjakhim, disregarding his companion’s protests and trying to bring the conversation back to a diplomatic level. “You have a bizarre way of speaking, masked man,” replied Haseo Katana. “I’ll tell you more, but we will have to retreat to a safer place. I’m surprised the Apoteosi aren’t here yet…” “We won’t be able to move fast,” said Zaliphone, who had been quietly observing the newcomer. “One of our number is down.” “Don’t be so sure,” said the shadowed man. Indeed, Alex Starfade was beginning to stir. He groaned and rolled to his side, clutching at his ribs. Zaliphone kneeled down next to him. “Don’t move. The aircraft crashed and we’re about to learn where we are.” “Why… what… I feel like going home round about now,” groaned Starfade, scrunching his eyes and stretching. “You will not be in a fit state to go home if you don’t move,” said Haseo Katana. “And who are you to give us orders like that?” “Someone whose word you shall trust if you want to survive.” “Fair enough…” answered Starfade doubtfully, pulling himself upright. “Let’s go.” And the five of them started off towards some distant, tufted dunes. The landscape was desolate. The sun was starting to rise, bathing the environment in a red glow. All around was a grassy desert, the various patches of grass yellow and febrile. The dunes rolled all the way to the distance to the North and East, and a sea could be seen far off to the South and West. The burning carcass of the airship was now to their left as they walked towards the rising sun. “I think you can explain to us exactly what’s going on,” said Mjakhim. “Are we in danger? We’re not even from around here so who would want to harm us?” “Well for one,” replied Katana, “we’re in danger for as long as we remain on the sand. My enemy has the advantage on this terrain. We need to go past those dunes over there and reach solid ground.” “Enemy?” enquired Starfade? “First, you should know where you are,” said the shadowed man, “Welcome to the beautiful island of Orsic. A name that was found on a damaged sign when man first arrived here about 100 years ago, probably an artefact from before the harvest... When the first settlers arrived, a government was formed to rule over this island. For a while, everything seemed to be going well, there was some harvest-worthy land and the settlers were self-sufficient. Then came the Apoteosi. They arrived in secret and placed their numbers among the various settlements on the island. At the beginning, no-one knew they were here. They slowly built their influence, spinning a web of power across the land. The first signs of their true nature was discovered when most of the local leaders from the following generation turned out to have the same subtle differences in their mannerisms compared to the settlers. Some of our people started becoming suspicious, joining the dots and working out that something wasn’t right. I was born in a family of these suspicious people, and was taught to identify those who were so similar to us, but who were somehow different. As my generation started to grow up, those who had had doubts were now certain something was wrong. The careful balance of the government was now in the hands of these strange people. We don’t know how they did it, but over three generations, they infiltrated the administration and are now in power. Most people don’t believe that they are outsiders… or rather, they don’t want to know. People have disappeared. People who said too much. So now, we’ve gone underground... to investigate, to find out the truth, and to eliminate the threat to our island and its people. I’m taking you to our council. They will know what to do with you. If you are worthy, you may be allowed to join our ranks...” Mary Cow, who had been listening in silence, suddenly interjected. “But who said that we wanted to be in your little fungroup? I just want a way off this terrible place.” “As long as there are tacos, I’m good,” added Arjahn Mjakhim. Haseo Katana ignored them and continued, “In our many years of investigation, we’ve found out that they’re looking for something. They refer to it as a ‘key’, though we don’t know what it is exactly.” He was interrupted by the ground, that had begun shaking beneath him. “BURROWERS,” shouted Katana. “RUN!” The five of them sped off towards the next set of dunes. The ground around them was vibrating and mounds could be seen coming towards them. Three forms erupted from the ground, surrounding the group and showering them with sand. They were forced to stop by three men, their sand-coloured armoured clothing culminating in a drill on their heads. It would have looked comical had the situation not been so unknown and dangerous to the four outsiders. The group tensed… TL;DR Spoiler (Click to View) Haseo Katana is part of a resitance movement against the Apoteosi, an unknown group that has infiltrated the Orsic government. RE: RP Discussion - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 09-04-2012 04:01 AM Have a taste STORY Spoiler (Click to View) “Let’s not do anything rash,” said Arjahn Mjakhim. “We don’t know if these people are friends or enemies. Haseo Katana, what have you to say on the matter?” The question was only greeted by silence, punctuated by the regular hissing coming from the burrowers. Haseo Katana had disappeared. “WELL HE SEEMS TO HAVE GONE,” shouted Alex Starfade. “I WILL NOW QUIETLY WAIT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS.” Zaliphone was confused by the situation and crouched behind Starfade, waiting to see what would happen next. “What do you want?” demanded Mjakhim to the newcomers. “We’re not your enemies and we can ” “LEROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOYY!” Mary Cow’s patience had cracked. Running up to one of the burrowers, she wrenched him from the ground and clouted him over the head. “Sheesh,” sighed Zaliphone. “Looks like we’re going to have to stand and fight…” TL;DR Spoiler (Click to View) Mjakhim attemps to talk to the strangers. RE: RP Discussion - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 09-06-2012 09:58 AM Here's the next smidgeon STORY Spoiler (Click to View) Before anyone could move, Zaliphone ran into the fray, launching himself at the same burrower that Mary Cow had clouted over the head. His kick was strong, but deflected off the side of the enemy, slightly off target. The Apotheos staggered nonetheless, looking weakened. Mary Cow, disregarding the battle completely, was still looking for Haseo Katana. “Where did he go? It’s not as if he just melted into the sand??” Laughing softly to himself, the ex-policeman observed the fray from his hiding place. Strangely enough, only Zaliphone had attacked. “What a bizarre group of people…” The burrowers seized their chance and attacked. The first attempted to slash Mary Cow, who was now trying to dig a hole in the sand to find Haseo Katana. Turning just in time, Moo’s lush beard deflected part of the blow. Two open wounds appeared on her arm, causing her to wince and fall to the ground. The second burrower raised its rifle, aiming for Alex Starfade. The shot was expertly aimed, the bullet lodging itself in Starfade’s chest. He was blown back by the force of the projectile. As the third burrower chose to attack Zaliphone, the latter picked up Starfade, raising him up like a human shield. The Apotheos’s claws entered both men, stabbing them in the arm. Blood was streaming down Starfade’s chest and arm, though that did not stop him from slapping Zaliphone for what he had just done. The first strike had finished, but the battle was far from over… TL;DR Spoiler (Click to View) Zaliphone attacks the already weakened burrower.
