Portal 2 had no portals originally, and didn't contain Chell or GLaDOS, it was also set in the 1950s and wasn't even really a Portal game.

The playtesters hated it and wanted portals (hence the name) and Valve gave them it.

I don't think this is true because Portal is based off a indie game I belive it was called "Narbacular Drop" which was a puzzle game wich included portals like doors, how ever it was a short game and Value liked the idea and took it much further.

Edit: Oh sorry I did not notice this was for Portal 2 but I still don't think they would chnage the game in such away.

Valve decided to make a game that was "different" they said, they wanted to change it to explain how portals were invented, and give a portalish feel, but in a different way. They thought it was same old same old, and everyone hated it, so they scrapped it and started again.

I have a hard time believing that Valve would be so far off that they would have to end up changing the whole game. Undecided With the lack of source or anything at the site itself I really don't trust it.

Did any other site talk about this? Valve stuff is rarely kept to one site if it's true.

I heard about that too. Even more that in the game you go back to the old Aperture facilities where Cave Johnson used to command. You could see that they were starting teh portal technology but the things were immense.
