Interesting video game facts - Wallachia - 07-22-2012 04:58 PM I take no credits from any of those, since I didn't create those facts. Anyways, some of them might have no internet source, but I won't post anything that can't be proved. - The game Rage of the Dragons was supposed to be an official sequel of the old Double Dragon games. However, the company who owned the series at the time, also the one responsible for Double Dragon Advance, did not authorize the game to be a sequel. Instead, it became only a unrelated gaming fight with two characters who happened to be called Billy and Jimmy. - There is a typo in the NES game Double Dragon III. Billy is called as "Bimmy". - Zero, from the Megaman X series, was originally meant to be the actual Megaman X. However, since it deviated too much from the original story, it was made into a new character instead. - Speaking of Zero, according to his bio, he was created by Dr. Wily, not by Dr. Light. - Due to language reasons, the brazilian fan-base of Street Fighter II, when the arcade first arrived in the country, miscalled Guile's sonicboom for Alex Full, Chun-li's Spinning Bird Kick as "Mini-taxi" and Sagat's Tiger Uppercut as "Tiger Robocop". -When the famous Zelda series was released in Japan, it's original name was "The Hyrule Fantasy: The Legend of Zelda" (The Hyrule Fantasy - Zelda no Densetsu). Since the North American version had the name only as 'The Legend of Zelda' and sold over 1 million copies, Nintendo adopted the name and changed the series names to be what it is today. - The biography of Scorpion, from Mortal Kombat, was changed around 6 or 7 times. The first version of his history of being enemies with Sub-Zero was that Sub-Zero killed him in MK1, then came back for revenge in MK2, but became his protector upon seeing his 'attitude change'. - Unmasked Sub-Zero from MK3 was meant to be MK1's Sub-Zero. It was later changed when Ed Boon decided to keep Noob Saibot in the story. - Smoke in MK2 is nothing but a pallete swap from Scorpion. - Ermac was created by accident in MK1. Due to a miscode, Reptile's clothes were red, and his name displayed ErrMac (Error Macro). - The reason why Johnny Cage and Rayden weren't in MK3 was because the actors who played them, two brothers, went to an event dressed as the characters and leaked the content of the game. Ed Boon, unhappy with that, started reprogramming the game from scratch and both actors were fired. - Ryu and Ken were created on Street Fighter in order to make people stop arguing about "who would choose that guy". - SNK has stated that Ryo Sakazaki and Robert Garcia are not copied from Ryu and Ken, but from Jimmy Lee and Billy Lee. - The game Art of Fighting was the first game to use the taunt command. - Lee Pai Long is introduced in Art of Fighting as assassin. However, in Snk vs Capcom Chaos, if you get Serios Mr. Karate's good ending, you will see Lee Pai Long with him, whereas Takuma calls him 'master'. - The game Art of Fighting, where Ryo, Robert, Yuri and Takuma appear, shows a young Geese Howard. His bio at the time stated that he was around 28. Ryo and Robert, according to their Bio, are 26 years old, around the same age of Jeff Bogard, Terry's and Andy's father. Ryo and Robert were supposed to be as old as Geese in the KOF series. Status: CONFIRMED! Wikipedia shows an article where SNK purposefully ignored the timeline so the Art of Fighting cast could appear in the KOF series. - Ginzu, the Ninja from the Captain Commando game, is the 37th master of the Bushin-Ryu Ninpo, the same style from Final Fight/Street Fighter's Guy, who is the 34th. Ginzu is Guy's great-grandson (Not confirmed, seen only in one media so far). - Comparing Iron Man's suit spec with Captain Commando's suit specs, Iron Man has a better physical strenght enhancement, where the Captain's armor tops it in every other aspect. Cameo's and references: - The game 'A boy and his Blob' uses the same font as the first Indiana Jones title screen. Additionally, the first few notes of the game's theme are exactly the same as Indy's first movie. - The first part of the ending credits theme in the game ActRaiser is exactly the first half of 20th Century's Fox fanfare. - The first past of the old game Alex Kidd in High-Tech world is a direct - and quite blatant - copy from the anime Anmitsu Hime, except that the princess was replaced by Alex Kidd. Here are some characters of the anime. I didn't find any screenshots from the mansion yet, but any emulator + rom can show it. - Every three stages in the game Alleyway for GameBoy, you play a bonus stage themed on Mario and one of Mario's enemies. Mario (3), Koopa Troopa (6), Blooper (9), Piranha Plant (12), Bullet Bill (15), Goomba (18), Cheep Cheep (21), and Bowser (24). - In the game Animaniacs, there is a Vic Viper from the Gradius games hidden in one of the stages. Screenshot yet to come. - In the game Arcana for SNES, if you watch the intro sequence, there is a Kirby among the evil soldiers. It is worth to notice that Arcana was made before any Kirby games. - Sonic the Hedgehog can be found in Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP2 on the MegaDrive. - In Banjo-Kazooie, the Beaver in Click Clock Woods is named Gnawty, which is the same name of the Beavers in Donkey Kong Country. - In Breath of Fire's game, if you talk to one of the thieves in a house inside the town of Bleak, Chun-li will appear. - In a hidden room of a church in a level of Duke Nukem 3D, you can find Doom's main character Flynn Taggart dead in a corner. -In the Turtle Rock Dungeon in 'A Link to the Past', you will find several references to Super Mario 3 game, ranging from going through pipes to even finding chain chomps around. - In the game The Lost Vikings, after the first Egyptian levels, the lines of the Vikings' conversation are exactly the same lines of the character Hudson, from Alien, with the changes from "We're f*" to "We're doomed". - In Mega Man Battle Network, if you go to the power plant, you will find one defective program with the line "All your base are belong to us". - In the game Pikmin, the character Captain Olimar was made after Mario. The japanese version of his name is sounded "Orima", which are the syllables of Mario backwards. - In Pilotwings 64, if you crash your plane at Mt Rushmore, the face you hit will turn into a Mario face. - Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee, from the Pokemon series, were named after Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee. - In Saffron's city, go to the copycat's house, find the videogame and your character will say "It is Mario wearing a bucket on his head". The game Copycat was playing is "Mario and Wario", which consisted on guiding Mario around after Wario placed a bucket at his head. - If you finish Samurai Showdown as Haohmaru or Gen An, you will see Mai Shiranui in one of the scenes. - The warp whistle from Super Mario 3 is also in Legend of Zelda, with the same effect of summoning a whirldwind. Source of references/cameos: http://www.flyingomelette.com/cameos/cameosa.html UPDATE JULY 26TH: - Daniel Pasina Was Not In MK3 Because He Advertised Blood Storm As Johnny Cage. He Was Fired From Midway. (By B.S.B.) - The level select code in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, (19, 65, 9, 17), is actually the birth date of Yuji Naka (1965 September 17). (By SonicGuru) - Solid Snake was originally going to appear in Super Smash Bros. Melee but was left out due to time constraints. (By SonicGuru) - The background of the browser game Quake Live unites Doom and Quake Universes as one. According to the backstory of the first versions of each games, there is a common point where civilians and military personnel were shot by a Commander who was actually a traitor. While Flynn Taggart refused to obey and was sent away, Ranger, protagonist of Quake Series, was not around at the moment of the shooting. This means that Ranger and Taggart were from the same squad. - You can find Donkey Kong in the crowd while playing Punch-Out! Wii. Here. - If you ended a mission in Goldeneye with the right control style, you were no longer part of the scenery in cutscenes, thus being able to actually shoot characters and keep playing even during cutscenes. - London Dyer, the one who ported the Donkey Kong game to Atari, made a way to secretly add his initials to the game's title screen. However, it was so hard to find out, even by accident, to the point even the creator forgot how to achieve it. This was only found out in 2008. Source. - In the game Just Cause 2, the island from the serie Lost is present in the game. Source - In older versions of Team Fortress 2, if you used Valve's Hammer model editor to find the Pyro's model, you could find the face of a woman hidden underneath...who looked exactly like the scout's mother. - Still in TF2, there is a place where you can find a picture of the Engineer, as a kid, with the Engineer from TFC. While it is speculated that he would be the father Dell Conagher (TF2's engineer's name), according to the story, his grandfather was already old when the stalemate between Blutarch and Redmond started. This means that it would be impossible for that man to be Dell's father. - Unlike many games, TF2 started without a backstory. It was built during the updates of the game. - The concept of the administrator for Team Fortress 2 was not created by Valve. They in fact didn't even consider her to be working for both teams. That was added after the company bought a fanart of her which is currently her appearance. - Blu and Red, in TF2, are around 150 years old. They were around 30 years when their feud started. By then they hired the Engineer's grandfather to build them a life-lasting machine. Mr. Conagher was already old back then. Provided that Dell Conagher's age is not stated, he has eleven Ph.D titles, and there is at least 80 years of difference from him and his grandfather, Dell might have his own version of the life-lasting machine (specially because he does have the blueprints for them). RE: Interesting video game facts - SERIOUSLY THOUGH - 07-22-2012 05:15 PM That's a lot to read but there were a few I didn't know yet, thanks RE: Interesting video game facts - Nuudoru - 07-22-2012 05:52 PM Quote:- Zero, from the Megaman X series, was originally meant to be the actual Megaman X. However, since it deviated too much from the original story, it was made into a new character instead. Not totally correct. If I recall correctly Zero was meant to be the main character, and Mega Man X a side character. Quote:- Ryu and Ken were created on Street Fighter in order to make people stop arguing about "who would choose that guy".I highly doubt that one. I am still to find a register of that, but an employee of Capcom stated that in a brazilian interview around 15 years ago. I remember that interview being published in a magazine. Ryu and Ken were the only playable characters in the very first Street Fighter, called Fighting Street in some version. Ken was basically a palette swap of Ryu with few variants for the second player. Also their names mean Dragon (Ryu) and Punch (Ken). |
