Heroes of Ruin - Xannidel - 07-19-2012 07:19 AM So I went out and got this game today and you know what? It is a pretty fun solid dungeon crawler game. You have 4 characters (1 tanky, 1 melee dps, 1 mage and 1 ranged dps) and they are gender locked (the only female is the mage which makes me sad because I tend to wanna play male characters (This is like the only sexism that I have so don't be too mad)) The 3DS is a little awkward to use because the only REAL time you need to use the stylus is when you need to open your inventory or check your quest(s) or level a skill up. Every level grants you 1 skill point to use (or not) on a skill that is either your level or below it. Each character has 3 skill trees and some skills WILL require you to put a point into a skill you may not necessarily want to use. After you distribute your skill point(s) you will have the option to also allocate 3 points into 3 stats (1 stat helps your damage, 1 stat helps your health and 1 stat increases your energy and energy regeneration). Gear and weapons do have a level requirement BUT not a stat requirement. Also THEY DO NOT HAVE DURABILITY. That alone should make many people jump in happiness if you have played Diablo games. The B button works as your classes melee/ranged attack while the A, X and Y buttons are for your classes skills/Buffs and are changed via the skill menu. I have not found a way to transfer gear from one toon to another so that sort of sucks. I am only in Act 2 so I can't really talk about a whole lot else. The only bad thing I have to say is enemies DO respawn and sometimes it may not be the same enemies as before. Quests are pretty standard (some require you to kill enemies for loot while others ask you to free sailors or to find keys to a chest. Bosses are pretty standard but the only annoying thing is when bosses/tougher enemies spam their block attack in which case you gotta take time to HOLD the B button down to have a charged normal attack to break the block and that leaves you vulnerable if you get surrounded. Also the in game voice chat is a little finicky and will work sometimes and not work other times. Playing with someone online and NOT local, the game holds up pretty well and I did not really encounter any lag but there was this one time where I was AFK looking up skills or items to equip and when I came back some animations from my friend were still going off around me when he was down a long hall so there are some minor bugs but nothing game breaking. If you have any questions then please let me know. RE: Heroes of Ruin - Beardy - 07-19-2012 08:29 AM I've had this game for AGES now and I still haven't gotten around to playing it. Is it better with the Circle Pad, or is it not a Circle Pad game? Is it rubbish if you play it offline by yourself? RE: Heroes of Ruin - Xannidel - 07-19-2012 09:26 AM I have not tried it with the circle pad (will try tonight and let you know tomorrow) and I played the prologue 2 times by myself (one as the female mage and the other as the gunslinger (the ranged dps class) and I found them both fun to play by myself and then I made a new gunslinger and played with a friend and we stopped at the beginning of Act 2 and it was also a lot of fun (we did not really use the voice talk that much) but we did comunicate via Facebook and it was a lot of fun regardless. Then again I like to play MMORPGs by myself to avoid any hassle unless there is a group quest ect.) My hand did start to get a bit tired after holding the 3DS for so long but that is not a huge deal. The game is fun yes but if you want to wait for your friends to get it then by all means do so, no need to play the game and get bored because you are playing by yourself or something like that. |
