I believe that Tetris is one of the great triumphs of humankind.
Other than that, probably Legend of Zelda.

I was born just after the NES era (1990) but these are my favorites on an emulator
The Guardian Legend
Castlevania 3
Super Mario Bros 3
Super Mario Bros 2
Arkista's Ring
Legend of Zelda
Little Samson (but never finished it)
Megaman 4 (and all others really)

Although Mega Man II was great, I still dont see why is is hailed as the series best. I thought overall Mega Man III was better.
