Did ya know?
In the uncensored version of Resident Evil, Chris Redfield was shown smoking a cigarette during the intro. However, this scene was removed during the international port for unknown reasons.

Because smoking in a video game was probably NOT the best publicity for the first game in the franchise. Back then I think companies were hesitant to do anything like that because of the impressions that would leave on the players.
All speculation of course but that is how I see it.
