A nice, working Chat - Nicknclank - 06-26-2012 09:19 AM

The title says it all! Instead of talking all the time thru the posts, we could have some chat rooms where we could talk about different stuff like, I don't know, videogame releases, what's cool about this or that game, or even the reason the PS3 is better then the XBox (or vice-versa).

Plus, if we want a cool design for it, I'm pretty sure there are some good artists on the forums who would like to help out ^_^

This is something we could definitely do in the future.

From my experience with other forums it's better to wait with making a chat until the forum is big and active enough to actually divide members like that. Because whatever you like it or not chats mostly divides forum users in some way, with some people even stopping going to the forum.

But the idea of getting a chat eventually is something that sounds nice. I'm quite fond of IRC chatrooms.

yeah i was just about to mention something about an IRC. but i agree, let's wait

I dislike standard forum chats as it removes some of the interaction from users. Wouldn't it be better to get an IRC channel of sorts?

RE: A nice, working Chat - GamingGuineaPig - 06-27-2012 02:41 AM

irc channel for me sucks, i preffer something like chatango, easy to add to web, can have moderators, color nicks, avatars, signatures, emits a "bip" when someone writes,... more complete than irc i mean
i think in chatango mainpage shows you how to create your own group, whe can try both type of chat and later decide

It sounds like we should eventually get an IRC-chat that you can also visit through a java client. Those are very common and work well enough. It's a lot easier for us 24/7 lurkers since chatango and such are really hard to keep up for so long.

The_Gaming_Guinea_Pig, I'd take IRC over all these clunky Chatango like chats. Of course, that is personal choice. There are lots of IRC Java clients out there, there is even an HTML/JavaScript (AJAX) based one called Mibbit. Its rather excellent I must say.

I'm all for a nice and clean working chat system when the forum grows a bit more. It'd be fun.

We should get a Teamspeak channel. However, I offered DidYouKnowGaming but he said we should wait...

I was going to post something like this; I hope it's still being considered for the future.

Otherwise, I do have Skype or MSN if anyone wants! Just PM me! I won't do a video chat, though.

There is a skype chat burrowed somewhere on teh forums. You can get anyone's skype over there. We also have our own little chat room on skype, so yeah.

This reminds me that I need to create a(nother) account for this
