NINTEN and SONY. - retrolinkx - 07-11-2012 01:50 PM In the original Pokémon games (I believe Red and Blue only), if the player begins a new game, and skips the naming process for him/her self and their rival, the names are set for the player being called NINTEN and their rival being called SONY. This isn't visible in normal play since you would usually pick the name for both characters beforehand, but using codes can skip the name entry and will make these appear in game. Also I'm not sure if this has been posted yet... RE: NINTEN and SONY. - BumblebeeCody - 07-12-2012 01:10 AM That's cool if true but, so little sources on this. RE: NINTEN and SONY. - Xannidel - 07-12-2012 01:48 AM Would make sense, Nintendo and Sony were pretty much neck in neck during the 90s. RE: NINTEN and SONY. - Sohakmet - 07-12-2012 03:37 AM That would make sense indeed. RE: NINTEN and SONY. - Skarro - 07-12-2012 04:00 AM This looks very fake, never-mind the fact that they were not rivals back then. But to find the several lines of code required to skip the two parts of the intro would take an eternity. Where as just skipping the entire intro all together would be fairly simple. As someone who used to modify code for the GBA Pokemon I feel i know enough to label this as untrustworthy. This guy recorded it, typed in NINTEN and SONY, muted the sound on the video, removed the parts showing him naming the trainers, and added the sound in manually to make it look more authentic. RE: NINTEN and SONY. - Takahashi2212 - 09-01-2012 05:22 AM "An unused default name for Red in the English Generation I games was "NINTEN". Conversely, Blue's unused default name is "SONY". While normally unviewable, changing a few addresses within the game's code can allow for these names to appear as shown here. This references the fact that in the years surrounding the releases of the Generation I games, Sony was Nintendo's main competition. Also Ninten is the default name of the main protagonist of Mother, another Nintendo game. Many people who worked on Mother also worked on Pokémon." Maybe in Black and White 2 if you bypass the intro with codes Blacks name will be Shigeru Miyamoto and Whites is Bill Gates or Kevin Costner D: RE: NINTEN and SONY. - DrZaius - 09-01-2012 07:09 AM This is what should've been linked to as this is what the Bulbapedia wiki itself links to: http://acmlm.kafuka.org/board/thread.php?id=404&page=1 A wiki is only as good as the sources it cites and this one seems legit. I think this is convincing enough. |
